A system message „..... has requested that you disconnect. Would you like to disconnect"
appears on the computer currently connected to the USB device. If „Yes" is clicked and the
present connection to the USB server is disconnected, the other user can connect to the USB
device connected to the USB server.
Connecting more than one USB device
A special feature of the USB server is the possibility to operate up to four USB devices.
This requires that a USB hub is connected to the USB port on the USB server (USB 2.0
recommended) (not supplied). The wall plug transformer supplied with the USB server powers
the USB hub and the devices connected to it, thanks to it output current of 2A.
Please note: A USB hub without its own wall plug transformer only provides a current
up to 100mA per port (this corresponds to the standard USB mode).
If you encounter any problems with the operation of a USB device via a USB hub
(e.g. a USB stick or another USB device is not detected during operation via USB
hub, but it works perfectly when it is plugged directly to a USB port on the USB
server), then only use a USB hub with its own power supply. The USB hub can then
provide current of up to 500mA.
Miscellaneous
Observe the (English) instruction manual on the manufacturer's CD. (PDF format).
To view the file, you need „Acrobat Reader" which you can download free of charge
at www.adobe.com.
• Suitable USB devices
The USB server allows the connection and operation of any USB device. Depending on the
USB driver, problems may occur if the USB driver does not require a direct USB connection.
The software provided emulates the direct connection; i.e. there is no difference for most
drivers, if the USB device is directly connected to the computer or operated via the USB server.
Due to the multitude of USB devices, we cannot guarantee that every USB device is suitable
for connection to the USB server! In this case, the USB device needs to be connected, as
usual, directly to a USB connection on the computer and not to the USB server.
• Power supply for the external drive
The wall plug transformer enclosed has an output current of 2A so that e.g. hard discs without
internal power supply (6.35cm/2.5") can be operated.
• Software
The software provided has to be installed on every PC that is to access the USB device at the
USB server.
Please note: The simultaneous access of (e.g.) two or more computers to the USB
device (e.g. USB hard disk) connected to the USB server is not possible. First dis-
connect the existing connection, to allow another computer to have access to the
USB device; see Section „Connection to the USB device".
If a USB hub is connected to the USB server, you can operate up to 4 USB devices. In this
case also, a USB device can be used by only a single PC (e.g. computer 1 and 2 cannot
access the USB device 1 at the same time).
It is, however, possible to connect PC 1 with the USB device 2 and PC 2 with the USB device
4 for example.
• Password:
Access to the connected USB device can be safeguarded by a password.
If you forget the password, the USB server can be reset to default settings with the button
„RESET", see below.
• Restoring default settings:
The USB server can be reset to default setting as follows:
Press the countersunk „RESET" button e.g. with a toothpick for 10 seconds. After this, the USB
server is reset to the default settings; you can release the „RESET"-button. The USB server
requires up to 30 seconds for a restart.
Handling
Only to be used in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet,
danger of a fatal electric shock!
Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit.
Allow the device to reach room temperature before switching it on. This may take
several hours. Only then can the transformer be plugged into the mains and the
router put into operation.
Ensure that the insulation for the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
The housing must not be opened! Any maintenance or repair work must only be
carried out by authorised personnel.
Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply! This
presents a danger to life!
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
If the product is not to be used for a while, unplug the wall plug transformer. Bear in
mind that, connection to the USB server and the USB device connected will no longer
be possible.
Avoid the following unfavourable environmental conditions at the installation location
and during transportation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loudspeakers
When setting up the product, ensure that the cables are neither bent nor squeezed.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the
household waste!
Please dispose of the device when it is no longer of use, according to the current
statutory requirements.
