may be used.
The product should only be used in dry indoor areas, it must not be exposed to

Handle the product with care; knocks, blows or even a fall from a low height can
damage it.
Start-up
• Connect the round, low-voltage plug of the power supply unit with the relevant jack on the USB
server.
• Connect the RJ45 connector of the USB server to your network switch or router via a 1:1-con-
nected network cable .
• Insert the power supply unit into a mains socket (230V~/50Hz). The power LED on the USB
server lights up.
Furthermore, the LED „LINK" next to the network jack should light up and the „ACT" LED
should blink. This indicates a functioning network connection.
• Connect an USB device (e.g. an external USB-hard disc) to the USB port at the USB server
and turn it on.
• Insert the CD provided in the appropriate drive on your computer. If the installation program
does not start automatically, open the directory of the CD, e.g. with the Windows File Manager,
and start the installation program manually.
Follow all the software instructions. Windows may need to be restarted after completing the
installation!
Depending on whether you want to connect a printer or another device (e.g. USB hard disc) to
the USB server, you have to install the appropriate software.
• There should be a new symbol on the desktop, with which the software for the USB server can
be started.
• Now connect your USB device with the USB connection on the USB server!
• In order to connect the computer with a USB device con-

nected to the USB server, the icon „Search" (software
„Networking USB Server") has to be clicked and the net-
work is searched for available USB servers.
Version 06/09
You can create a connection between the connected
°
USB device and the computer by clicking „Connect" (and
a connected USB device is disconnected by clicking
„Disconnect" and becomes available for other computers
in the network).
Then the device is available as usual in Windows, e.g. an
additional drive letter is allocated automatically by
Windows for a USB hard disc or a USB stick (if neces-
sary, the hardware needs to be detected beforehand).
To set up a fixed IP address, set the option „DHCP Setting" to „Disable" and enter the desired
IP address so that it matches the IP addresses of you network (e.g. if you use fixed IP address-
es in the range 192.168.1.x enter 192.168.1.150 as long as the „150" is not used).
The „Subnet-Mask" has to be equal for all devices in the network (Standard for Windows
XP/Vista is usually 255.255.255.0).
By clicking „Submit", it is transferred to the USB network adaptor and saved.
Please note: Connect a USB device to the USB server first. Otherwise, the device
is not shown after clicking „Search".
If you do not have a DHCP server activated (e.g. available in almost every
router), the software may fail to find the USB server (connect the USB device
first, e.g. a USB stick, see above!).
In this case, your computer has to be set to IP address 169.254.10.1. Then the USB
server can be searched by means of the software. The computer has (as long as
no DHCP server is working in the network) the preset fixed IP address
169.254.10.10.
By right-clicking on the USB server recognised by the software you can select the
option „View device webpage". There, the IP address of the USB server has to be
changed under „Network" in order for it match to your network (e.g. 192.168.1.x).
Please observe that every IP address is only to be assigned one time in the whole
network.
After configuration of the USB server, your computer can be set back to the origi-
nal IP address.
