Explanation of symbols
An exclamation mark in a triangle indicates important instructions in this operating
manual that absolutely have to be observed.
The arrow symbol indicates specific tips and advice on operation.
Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety
information. If you do not follow the safety instructions and information
on proper handling in this manual, we assume no liability for any resulting
personal injury or damage to property. Such cases will invalidate the warranty/
guarantee.
a) General
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. This may become
dangerous playing material for children.
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high
humidity, moisture, flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and
protect it from any accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed
if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height
can damage the product.
• It is the user's responsibility to evaluate the measurement results of this device.
We do not guarantee the accuracy of the measurement results. Nor do we assume
liability for these. Under no circumstances do we assume liability for damages
caused by the use of the measurement results.
• The measurement device is not suitable for measurement of metals or electricity-
conductive materials.
• Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the
device.
• Maintenance, modifications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an
expert or at a qualified shop.
• If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions,
contact our technical support service or other technical personnel.
b) (Rechargeable) batteries
• Correct polarity must be observed while inserting the (rechargeable) batteries.
• (Rechargeable) batteries should be removed from the device if it is not used
for a long period of time to avoid damage through leaking. Leaking or damaged
(rechargeable) batteries might cause acid burns when in contact with skin,
therefore use suitable protective gloves to handle corrupted (rechargeable)
batteries.
• (Rechargeable) batteries must be kept out of reach of children. Do not leave
(rechargeable) batteries lying around, as there is risk, that children or pets swallow
them..
• (Rechargeable) batteries must not be dismantled, short-circuited or thrown into
fire. Never recharge non-rechargeable batteries. There is a risk of explosion!

General instruction for the measurement process
• The humidity level shown is an average value which was determined by the humidity on the
external surface as well as inside the material. In case there is a visible surface humidity or
water, wipe it off and let the surface dry for a few minutes before you begin the measurement.
• Hold the measurement securely only in the lower area (with the rubber gripping surface) to
avoid influences from your hand (water content in the body!).
• The measurement device is not suitable for measurement of metals or electricity-conductive
materials. When there is metal in the measurement range of the humidity sensor (for e.g.,
nails, screws. cables, tubes, etc.), the measurement values increase significantly.
• When the ballhead is placed in a room corner, it leads to strong deviation of the measurement
values because there are two or three surfaces in the measurement range.
Therefore, always take care that the measurement process is run only on one surface and
maintain sufficient distance from other surfaces/objects (we recommend at least 10 cm).
• Place the ballhead of the humidity sensor on the flattest possible surface. Rough surfaces
cause imprecise measurement results.
• The signal of the humidity sensor penetrates depending on the material and thickness up to
102 mm (measurement depth).
• The ballhead of the humidity sensor or the measurement device must be kept at a right angle
to the surface to be measured. The measurement device must therefore be kept perpendicu-
lar to the surface.
If the measurement device is slanting, there are strong deviations of the measurement value.
• The thickness of the measured material plays an important role in the measurement result.
The measurement value increases with the respective thickness of the material (for e.g.,
humidity in concrete or in wood).
• An important application area for this device is comparative measurement, in which the
measurement value is compared with a reference value. The reference value is set by the
measurement of a similar or identical material in a dry area.
When the measurements that follow are significantly higher than the reference value, it can
be concluded that the measurement area is humid.
This procedure is highly suitable for assessing damages caused by water, locating leaking
spots and areas with high humidity.
