Connectors
GNS 9870 has two connectors:
miniUSB jack for power supply and interface
2,5 mm RCA socket for connecting the FM antenna
6.
Installation
1. Place the GNS 9870 in a way, so that it has an unobstructed „view" to the sky. Experience has shown
that the best results are achieved in a central position on top of the dash board. Secure the receiver to
avoid slipping. For TMC reception connect the whip antenna with your device and fix it on the
windscreen with the help of the suction pads.
2. The GNS 9870 will be delivered with an adapter for an MD6 connector. The small outline of this
connector type allows for easy installation under confined conditions. Depending on your application
you need to order a USB adapter (for notebook, tablet- or car PC) or MD6 T-Box (for the use with a
PDA).
3. a) For the use with a PC you have to install the USB driver on your PC first. Do not plug in the USB
connector before the driver is installed. Insert the provided CD and follow the instructions on the
screen. If the CD does not start automatically, start the data file "cdm.exe" manually.
After the driver installation plug in the USB adapter into your PC and connect the other side of the
adapter with the MD6 jack.
b) For the use with a PDA you need the GNS MD6 T-Box and a PDA specific adapter cable. Plug in the
the MD6 jack of the GNS 9870 into one of the GNS MD6 T-Box slots and connect the other with your
PDA.
using the adapter cable (Attention: many cars start the power supply only after activating the ignition).
4. You can now start the navigation software on your PDA and configure the serial interface and data rate
according to the instructions found in your navigation software manual.
Accessories are available at the GNS Online shop:
If the receiver has been unused for a longer period, it may take some minutes before actual position is
determined.
