Operating instructions
Industrial USB 3.0 Hub
Item no. 1171003 (4 Ports)
Item no. 1171004 (7 Ports)
Intended use
The product is intended for connection to a computer with USB 3.0 interface and pro-
vides additional USB 3.0 ports for use.
The USB hub must be connected to a suitable external power supply (not included;
see segment „Connection and operation"). There is no need to observe polarity when
connecting the device.
To prevent the USB cables from loosening, the USB hub supports special screw-faste-
ned USB cables. You can also connect ordinary USB cables to the USB hub.
It is imperative that you follow the safety instructions and all other information contai-
ned in this user manual.

• Unauthorized modifications and/or alterations to the product are not per-
mitted due to safety and approval reasons (CE). Do not disassemble the
product.
• This product is not a toy, keep it out of the reach of children.
• The product is only suitable for use in dry, closed indoor areas. The entire
product may not become moist or wet.
• When setting up or mounting the device, ensure that the cable does not
get kinked or crushed.
• Do not use force to connect USB plugs. USB plugs can be plugged into a
USB socket only one way.
• Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold
room into a warm one. The condensation generated could destroy the pro-
duct.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the location where the product
is placed, and during transport:
- wetness or high humidity
- cold or heat and direct sunlight
- dust or flammable gases, vapors or solvents
- severe vibration and blows of any kind
- strong magnet fields, such as near machines or speakers
• Have maintenance or repairs done by qualified personnel only.
• Do not leave packaging material unattended, as children could use it as a
toy creating hazardous situations.
Connection and operation
• Use the round socket or the connector with the screw terminals to connect an ex-
ternal power supply.
There is no need to observe polarity (positive/+ and negative/-).
The USB 3.0 hub operates with a voltage of 9 - 40 V/DC. The power supply must
correspond to the hub version (4 or 7 ports) and the number of connected devices.
A standard USB 3.0 port has 900 mA.
That means for the 4 port version (item no. 1171003) around 4 A, for the 7 port
version (item no. 1171004) around 7 A.
You can select a lower power supply if not all devices connected to the
USB 3.0 ports have the maximum power requirement.
• Turn on the external power supply. The power LED on the USB hub should light up.
• Use the USB cable provided to connect the USB hub to a free USB 3.0 port on your
computer. You need not turn off your computer for this step.
The operating system recognizes new hardware and installs the necessary drivers
automatically; they are part of the operating system.
• Connect your USB devices to the USB ports on the USB hub. When a device is
recognized, the corresponding LED lights up.
You can also connect and operate USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices from the
USB hub.
Depending on the USB device, the operating system recognizes new hardware and
installs any necessary drivers. Read the your USB device's operating instructions
for information on how to proceed.
Your operating system (e.g. Windows) uses its own drivers to operate USB devices
(e.g. USB sticks, USB mice, etc.).
There are screw threads next to the USB connectors. These can be used to screw
in screw-fastened USB cables.
Tips and notes
• The USB 3.0 hub is downward compatible to USB2.0 and USB 1.1. That means, that
normal USB 2.0 and USB1.1 devices are working without problems with the USB
3.0-Hub. That, however, will not make USB2.0/ USB1.1 devices any faster.
• In order to take advantage of the high speed of the USB 3.0, all devices must support
the USB 3.0 interface: The USB device itself (e.g. an external hard disk), the USB
Hub and the USB controller in the computer.
• The theoretical maximum speed of USB 3.0 (or USB 2.0 or USB 1.1) cannot be re-
ached during real operation. Reasons for that can be protocol information, the si-
multaneous operation of several USB devices or speed limitations of the connected
USB device or USB controller/mainboard.
It makes little sense to operate several hard disks via the USB 3.0 hub simultaneous-
ly, as the hard disks share the maximum possible data transfer volume between the
USB hub and your computer.
If you wish to transfer a great deal of data, for instance, between two USB 3.0 hard
disks, first connect one hard disk to the USB 3.0 hub and connect the second hard
disk directly to a USB 3.0 port on your computer.
• DOS or the Safe Mode of older Windows versions normally do not support USB
operation. Depending on the computer or BIOS/setup settings, the use of a USB key-
board or USB mouse is still possible. This, however, might require the USB keyboard
or mouse to be connected to the USB interfaces of the computer directly rather than
to the USB hub itself.
• USB devices can be connected and disconnected during use. It is not necessary to
switch off your computer when connecting or disconnecting devices.
When disconnecting a USB device during an active data transfer (e.g. when trans-
ferring data from an external disk to the computer), the operating system might col-
lapse. It could furthermore cause data loss or even damage to the file system on the
external drive.
• For Windows® XP, Vista™, 7 and 8, the menu bar displays an icon with arrowhead
when certain USB devices (e.g. USB hard disk) are connected. This functions allows
you to „remove" the USB device from your computer to stop data transfer. You can
then remove the USB device safely from the USB hub (or computer).
