Disclaimer
As compliance with the instructions, the operations and conditions when using the
device at no time can be monitored by the manufacturer; the manufacturer assumes no
liability for damages, costs and / or losses arising from incorrect use and / or incorrect
operation or in any way connected.
Intended Use of the Quick Charger
The Quick Charger can be directly powered off the mains current (110-240V~ 50-60Hz)
and is suitable for charging any NiCd or NiMH battery from 4-8 cells typically used in
rc-cars, planes or boats that is compatible with quick charging.
The charger is protected against overloading and short circuits as far as possible. It is
designed to work maintenance free. Care must be taken when determining the polarity
of the battery. It' s not allowed to operate the Quick Charger in adverse environments,
such as:
- High humidity
- Wet conditions
- Dust or combustible gases, vapors, solvents or benzene
- High temperature (> approx. +40°C)
- Heavy vibrations
The charging process is indicated by a red LED.
The cell count selection is automatically determined by the charger.
The charging current amounts to max. 1000mA (1A)
The Quick Chargers intelligent " delta-peak" design detects a fully charged battery and
ends the charging process automatically, switching to a low-current trickle charge. This
way, the battery won' t get overcharged but stays at its maximum capacity. An indicator
LED constantly informs about the current operating status.
Any other use of this product apart from the description above is not permitted and can
not only damage the Quick Charger, but can also lead to short circuits, fire, electrical
shock and personal harm. Hence, the product must not be changed or converted!
Important safety advices:
• Before you start using the Robitronic Quick Charger, please make sure that you' ve
read this manual! Keep this instruction manual in a safe place for later reference.
Robitronic is not liable for any warrantee claims or damages that occur from a
nonobservance of this manual.
• Chargers and accessories are not suitable for children! They' re not toys and children
should be carefully advised, not to use primary cells or batteries other than the
supported types with this charger.
• The Quick Charger should be regularly checked for damages, especially damages
on the mains cable. In case of a damage, the product must not be used until it is
repaired by a qualified person. (See our contact details at the end of this manual for
further advice)
• The Quick Charger must be protected from dust, moisture, direct sunlight, heat and
rain. This product can only be used in arid rooms.
• While charging, the Quick Charger must not be covered as the cases functions as a
heat sink. Make sure that air can circulate freely. Never leave the charger
unattended!
• During the charging process, the battery must be placed on non-combustible, heat
resistant and insolating surface. (e.g. a spare ceramic floor tile) Also make sure that
there are no flammable goods nearby.
• The mains cable must not be altered or coiled up during use.
• The following types of cells and configurations must not be connected to the Quick
Charger:
- Defective cells.
- Cells wired in parallel, any cells mixed with cells of different specifications,
performance or age.
- Primary cells, Li-based batteries; Caution: Explosion hazard!
- Batteries that are not specified with the charging currents, the Quick Charger
employs.
- Already charged, heated or not completely discharged batteries
- Batteries with integrated charging or discharge circuits.
• Before charging, always check with the safety recommendations of the battery' s
manufacturer. Improper handling like reverse polarity or charging currents that are
too high may result in the explosion of the battery with considerable additional
damage.
• The Quick Charger' s construction corresponds to protection rating II. (double
insulation) Always make sure the insulation on both the case and the mains cable is
intact
• Keep the chargers away from transmitters (cell phones, remote controls... ) as their
emf can disrupt or destroy the destroy the Quick Charger' s electronics.
• When the charger is subjected to considerable temperature differences, (especially
from cold to hot) let the condensation dry up first, before you use the Quick Charger.
Condensation water could otherwise destroy the charger.
• If you may assume, that the Quick Charger cannot be used safely any more, you
must immediately stop using it and secure it against unintended operation. Such an
assumption can be made if the Quick Charger:
- is apparently damaged.
- malfunctions
- is stored in an adverse environment for prolonged periods of time.
Charging Batteries
• Connect the Quick Charger' s mains cable to a 110-240V~ 50-60Hz source. Once the
red led flashes briefly, the Quick Charger functions correctly is ready to use.
• Before you plug the battery to the Quick Charger, check the correct polarity of the
connectors. (See illustration below.)
Black (-)
(+)
Red
• Connect the discharged nicd or nimh battery to the Quick Charger
• The red LED indicates the charging process
Once the LED lights up green, charging is completed and the battery is ready for
use. The Quick Charger now switches to trickle charge to keep the battery fully
charged. Now, disconnect the battery from the Quick Charger. If the battery feels
cold, charging has been interrupted early due to a false delta peak. Such false delta
peaks are especially common with old or poor batteries. Should such an early delta
peak occur, simply disconnect and reconnect the battery to the Quick Charger. You
can estimate the charging time through the following formula:
Charging time (h) = battery capacity (Ah) x 1.2 / charging current (A)
• When charging has finished, unplug both the battery and the charger.
Note: Should the red and the green LED flash permanently, then there' s a problem with
the Quick Charger. Disconnect the battery, unplug the charger from the mains and try
again after about 10 seconds. When you plug the Quick Charger to the mains while the
battery is connected, and the red LED doesn' t flash, you should immediately
disconnect the battery and the charger to avoid damage.
Possible causes for the malfunction can be:
- The battery is connected in reverse polarity.
- The battery or a single battery is defective
- Poor wiring resulting in a loose or no connection
- Mains socket is dead or defective
- Quick charger is defective
To get the most out of your batteries, only charge them when they' ve been fully
discharged before. This will prevent the memory effect from occurring.
Additionally, unused batteries should be cycled (discharge/charge) once a month
to prevent capacity loss. It' s normal for the batteries to get slightly warm during
the charging process. Do not cover the quick charger so it does not overheat.
