HOW IT ALL WORKS....
PREAMBLE
The EDAC V68/69 offers state-of-the art tech-
nology. Depending on the application, the user
can choose the optimum value-for-money solu-
tion between V68 and V69. Even the EDAC
V68 is audibly better than a standard 16-bit
converter, like usually found in DAT machines,
harddisk recording systems or digital multitrack
systems.
FUNCTION
From the AES/EBU input, the digital input signal
is fed to a receiver circuit for this sort of signals.
It's job is to 'translate' the signal into a form sui-
table for the following processing stages. The
receiver scans the incoming data at 64-times
oversampling. From the incoming signal, it fur-
thermore derives the sampling rate the internal
circuitry will operate at.
Next, the digital signal is fed to the CS 4328/
4329 converter chip, which incorporates the ac-
tual converter stage plus the analog output fil-
tering stage.
This converter distinguishes itself by one of the
best distortion figures and sound characteristics
found in this class.
It processes input words of up to 18-bit (20-bit)
width at 8-times oversampling. Stopband rejec-
tion exceeds 90 dB (75 dB).
Due to the high oversampling used, the digital
(noise) frequency is very high compared to the
useful analog frequency range. Therefore the
following analog low-pass filter need not be
very sophisticated concerning its band attenua-
tion. A one-pole (two-pole) filter proved to ope-
rate absolutely satisfactory.
After filtering, the analog output signal passes
the deemphasis circuitry and is led to the gain
control trimmers. Then it is fed to the output
buffer stages which are electronically balanced.
