FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION
Reduced protective effect
Reduced protective effect due to the use of out of date, damaged, soiled or incor-
rectly stored hearing protection.
»
Ear-muffs, and in particular cushions, may deteriorate with use and should be ex-
amined at frequent intervals for cracking and leakage, for example.
»
If hearing protection is out of date, damaged or heavily soiled, stop using it.
CAUTION
Overprotection by the hearing protection system
Overprotection can render warning signals, conversational speech and the percep-
tion of noises that give information about the working process unnecessarily difficult
to hear.
»
When wearing hearing protection, pay particular attention to the working envir-
onment.
»
The sound attenuation value chosen for the hearing protection should be no
higher than necessary to prevent the risk of damage to hearing.
4.2.
INTENDED USE
For use when users have intolerance to earplugs or when it is necessary to put on
and take off the ear defenders frequently. Optimum protective effect is achieved only
when the residual noise level reaching the ear of the wearer is within the range 70 dB
to 80 dB. Subtraction of the standard deviation from the average noise attenuation
yields an assumed protective effect of the hearing protection system under consider-
ation. Hearing protection capsules are adjusted, adjusted and maintained according
to the manufacturer's instructions. Hearing protection capsules are always worn in
noisy environments. Hearing protection capsules are regularly checked for their func-
tionality.
4.3.

USE CONTRARY TO THE INTENDED PURPOSE

Shell-type ear protectors make it difficult to determine the direction of origin of
sounds. Do not use them if good ability to determine the direction of origin of
sounds is necessary. Do not combine hearing protection with head protection and
glasses. Combination with other protective equipment must not impair the protect-
ive effect and must not hinder the wearer in his activities. The fitting of hygiene cov-
ers to the cushions may affect the acoustic performance of the earmuffs. This product
may be adversely affected by certain chemical substances. Further information
should be sought from the manufacturer.

Using hearing protection
5.1.
PUTTING ON SHELL-TYPE EAR PROTECTORS
A
Damage to hearing
Failing to wear hearing protection in a noisy environment, or wearing hearing pro-
tection incorrectly, poses a risk of permanent damage to hearing due to individual
peaks of noise or exposure to sustained noise over a period of years.

1. Before use, check shells and sealing rings for cracks and breakage.
2. Before using the band, check it for damage.
3. Remove earrings, and ensure that long hair does not cover the ears.

Remove soiling with lukewarm water and mild soap solution. Disinfect using diluents
alcohol to wipe the ear defenders. The foam liner should be allowed to air dry at
room temperature before reinserting them in the cups. Avoid direct sunlight. This
product may be adversely affected by certain chemical substances. Do not clean with
solvents, abrasive brushes or materials which could damage the sealing cushions. Do
not submerge in water. Further information should be sought from the manufac-
turer.
7.
Replace attenuation pads and sealing rings every 6 months or in case of damage. Or-
der via Art. No. 097782 1.
7.1.
1. Carefully pull the sealing rings out of the shell.
2. Pinch the damping pads between finger and thumb and remove them from the

8.
Store in the original packaging or box, protected from light, free of dust in a dry
place. Store at temperatures between +3 °C and +40 °C and at a relative atmospheric
humidity that does not exceed 85 %. The headband must not be stretched nor the
damping pads compacted. Do not store in the vicinity of acidic, aggressive, chemical
substances, solvents, humidity and dirt.
9.
Transport in the original packaging or a clean box.
10. Expiry date
If the hearing protection is older than 5 years since the date of manufacture, or if it is
damaged or heavily soiled, dispose of it. See the printed date
packaging for the date of manufacture. Replace attenuation pads and sealing rings
after a period of 6 months at the latest.

WARNING
On each occasion that hearing protection is worn, check it for correct seating.
Select the appropriate noise attenuation value to provide sufficient hearing pro-
tection in each specific noisy environment.
Put on the hearing protection before entering the noisy environment and con-
tinue to wear it through all the phases of noise.
Failure to follow these instructions will impair the protective effect of the hearing
protection.
»
The band must not be deformed.
»
Adjust the position of the individual shells, whilst maintaining the headband
in position.
»
The shells must fully enclose the ear. The presence of the arms of glasses or of
