SPRAYING TECHNIQUES
Use a piece of scrap cardboard to practice these basic spraying techniques before you
begin spraying the surface:
• Hold gun 300mm from the surface and aim straight at a surface, tilting the gun to direct
the spray angle causes an uneven finish.
• Flex wrist to keep the gun pointing straight on. Fanning the gun to direct the spray at an
angle causes uneven finish.
GUN TECHNIQUES
• Pull the trigger after starting the stroke.
• Release the trigger before the end of the stroke.
• Gun must be moving when the trigger is pulled and released.
• Aim the centre of the spray gun at the bottom edge of the previous stroke, overlapping
each stroke by half.
• A good spray pattern is evenly distributed as it hits the surface, the spray should be
atomised (evenly distributed).
• If the spray is uneven, the spray tip could be worn, a smaller tip may be needed or the
material may need to be thinned.
