ACA1240/1260 short manual
Dear Customer,
Thank you for purchasing this accelerator at this early stage. We're sure that it will satisfy all
your needs, as we have a lot for it in the works that makes an A1200 even more valuable.
However, we would like to emphasize that installing the product in a desktop Amiga 1200 is not
easy and requires some skills. Please make sure that you have enough light at your desk and
take appropriate anti-static precautions.
The installation should only be performed by experienced persons. As opposed to other
accelerators, this accelerator cannot be installed without opening the computer. If you have
never done this before, you should seek aid of a technician.
Preparation, software installation
This early version of the ACA1240/1260 does not yet have the required libraries in it's flash
ROM. You therefore have to install these libraries before you install the accelerator. Thor's
68040/68060 libraries are available from Aminet:
https://aminet.net/package/util/sys/Mu680x0Libs
Memory
The fast memory of the ACA1240/1260 is automatically used by your computer without
installing any software. A total of 255MByte is used automatically. One more MByte is reserved
for a copy of your Kickstart ROM ("Maprom" function).
Clock port
The ACA1240/1260 has a pin header for an RTC-module or a different clockport device,
available separately. RTC stands for "real time clock". Please mind that we do not recommend
to use a cable for clock port devices. If you choose to use a cable, please consult our Wiki
pages for the correct orientation and a list of supported devices before trying a random device
and/or orientation.
Micro SD-card
This slot is not yet used. It will be activated with a flash update that will be available later.
Please do not insert a flash card yet.
Jumpers
You will only need the jumpers in rare emergency cases. Leave the jumper open ("park
position") for normal operation. Only close the "Debrick" jumper if flashing with the
ACA1260tool is not possible any more. Use the "safe start" jumper position if your card was set
to a frequency that makes the computer crash before you can run the ACA1260tool to set it
back to a known-good frequency. Changing the jumper setting should only be done while the
computer is switched off.
Hardware Installation
Please remove all cables connected to your computer and the PCMCIA card, if present.
Carefully place the A1200 upside-down on its keyboard with the floppy drive pointing to the left.
Apply the two white rubber feet on the existing front rubber feet of your A1200 to lift the front of
the computer a little. The other two rubber feet remain unchanged. Then remove the trapdoor
cover, open the computer, remove the top lid and the keyboard.
Place the computer on the table with the circuit board up. Lift the front to place the accelerator
in the trapdoor slot and insert it. Gently push it all the way in, then pull it back by 1-2mm, so it's
not fully inserted – that's good practise to make sure that all pins have good contact.
