Getting started
Optical power meter function
This function is intended to test optical power.
1.
Connect one end of the fiber cable to the optic connector (1); plug the other cable end into a corresponding connector of an optical
light source (external device).
2.
Turn on the external optical light source (external device).
Press the ʎ button (8) to select a wavelength value (850nm, 1300nm, 1310nm, 1490nm, 1550nm, or 1625nm). The wavelength value
3.
of the optical multimeter and the wavelength value of the light source must be the same.
4. Press the dBm/W button (3) to select the units of measurement to measure the absolute optical power or relative optical power.
5.
Press the REF button (6) to display the last saved reference value (the default value is 0dB).
6.
Press the REF button (6) to measure the optical power. The result will be displayed on the screen.
7.
Press and hold the REF button (6) to save the value as a reference value.
Optical light source function
You can use this optical multimeter as an optical light source to test fiber optic cables with the use of another optical power meter (external
device).
1.
Insert one end of the fiber cable to the fiber optic connector (1) of this optical multimeter.
2.
Connect the other cable into a corresponding connector of another optical power meter (external device).
3.
Press the OP/SL button (7) to enter the optical light source function.
Press the ʎ button (8) to select a wavelength value (850 nm, 1300nm, 1310nm, 1490nm, 1550nm, or 1625nm). The default wavelength
4.
value for the light source function is 1310nm. The wavelength value of the optical multimeter and the wavelength value of the light
source must be the same.
5.
Press the Frequency/OSL button (5) to select the frequency.
6.
Proceed as described in the instructions of the optical power meter (external device).
Dual function: optical power meter and optical light source
1.
Insert both ends of the testing fiber cable into the fiber optic connectors (1) of this optical multimeter.
Press the ʎ button (8) to select a wavelength value (850nm, 1300nm, 1310nm, 1490nm, 1550nm, or 1625nm).
2.
3.
Press the Frequency/OSL button (5) to select frequency.
Press the REF button (6) to measure the optical power. The result will be displayed on the screen.
