Connection to antenna
For the best reception, we recommend you to use a top quality
outdoor antenna to operate the tuner. This applies particularly
to the reception of stereo radio transmissions, the fidelity of
which depends to a large extent on the VHF antenna used.
In
many
cases perfect stereo reception is only possible with a
multiple element antenna
aligned to the relevant transmitter.
Your specialist will gladly help you choose a suitable antenna
system
The tuner has a ferrite antenna, which can be opened out,
which
cannot be regarded as a complete replacement
for an
outdoor antenna, but which still provides in many cases a suf-
ficient reception of long and medium wave ranges.
To improve its efficiency we recommend you to open out the
ferrite antenna.
On the reverse side you will find plug sockets for the connection
of 240/300 Ohm VHF dipoles, 60/75 Ohm coax. antennas and
AM antennas.
The VHF
antenna plug should be placed
in socket FM 240/
300 Q.
If however, there are also plugs for the other ranges (long, me-
dium wave), as is often the case, for example, in older com-
mon-antenna
systems, these should be placed in sockets ANT
and GND (earth)
The 75 Ohm-coax. antennas should be connected to sockets
AM/FM 60/75 Q, which also provide medium and long wave.
Commissioning
Having plugged in the antenna cable, connected the unit to the
mains circuit, connected your speakers and any remote control
components, you can switch on the tuner.
POWER Mains-/Stand-by switch
Range selection
With the MANUAL buttons you can select frequency range
FM
Ultra short wave VHF
LW
Long wave
MW
Medium wave
In each case the illuminated signals of the respective buttons
will light up, as will the MAN button.
Transmitter selection
The transmitter can be selected by turning the large knob,
whereupon the transmitter frequency will be indicated on the
quartz-precise
digital
frequency
display.
For VHF,
the fre-
quency
display operates in 50 kHz steps (0.05 MHz), to con-
form
with
the European
frequency grid. By pressing the
CHANNEL button, the number of channels of the VHF trans-
mitter will be indicated instead of the frequencies. The AFC
button
should
not be depressed
during
manual
transmitter
selection. Set the required VHF transmitter in such a way that:
The exact transmitter frequency appears on the digital
display
The field intensity indicator SIGNAL, shows the highest
in the transmitter centre indicator TUNING,
only the
green light is on.
You can find the frequency and channel values of the transmit-
ter on
the enclosed
transmitter
table or in your TV/radio
magazine.
Transmitter selection for medium and long wave follows the
same pattern. The TUNING
display and the CHANNEL
and
AFC buttons do not have any function in this case. Medium
and long-wave frequency display is carried out in steps of one
kHz.
Programming the station memories
To program the VHF transmitters in the station memories mar-
ked STATIONS use the box wrench, situated below the sensor
button MAN.
When the box wrench
is removed, the AFC
which may have possibily been in operation before will be
switched off. Actuate sensor button 1 and set the desired trans-
mitter by turning the hollow screw, situated below the sensor
button, as is described under manual transmitter selection. The
VHF
transmitter
now remains constantly stored, even in the
case of a mains failure.
Program the transmitter buttons 2 — 7 in the same manner.
Using sensor button MAN, the set is switched over to manual
transmitter selection.
Medium and long-wave stations can also
be stored if the sensor button and range buttons marked MW
or LW are actuated simultaneously.
Now
set the transmitter
frequency,
by turning the hollow screw, below the relevant
sensor button.
The illuminated indication SIGNAL will help
you to achieve the best transmitter setting. If you wish to pro-
gram a station memory, which was originally occupied by an
MW or LW transmitter, with à VHF transmitter the sensor
button
and the range button marked
FM
must be actuated
simultaneously.
AFC button
On VHF
an automatic precise tuner will correct any variations
(from the transmitter frequency) of the tuner setting.
Renewed operation of the FM button, or a STATIONS button
programmed with a VHF transmission, will cause the AFC to
automatically switch off.
During manual transmitter selection, turn off the AFC button.
MONO Button
Noisy stereo transmissions can be switched over to mono recep-
tion by pressing the mono button.
In the case of mains failure, the stored medium and long wave
transmitters will be erased and automatically switched over to
FM. The reprogramming should be carried out as described
above.
STEREO TRIGGER
The tuner has a circuitry which automatically switches stereo
transmissions to mono
if the antenna signal does not reach à
certain value. This stereo/mono changeover point can be indi-
vidually set by the rotary control marked STEREO TRIGGER
