Using the MPX Filter Switch
When recording an FM broadcast using Dolby NR, the 19 kHz
pilot signal and the 38 kHz subcarrier signal included in FM
stereo broadcast signals can cause the Dolby NR circuitry to
malfunction. To prevent this from occurring, this unit is equipped
with a MPxX filter switch so that the Dolby NR circuitry can be
operated through a MPx filter. Therefore, the MPX filter switch
should be ON (MPX indicator
lit) when recording an FM
broadcast using Dolby NR and OFF at all other times.
The Dolby HX PRO System
Tape sensitivity is constantly changing as a recording is being
made due to the biasing effect of high frequency audio signals.
'Dolby HX PRO is a system that compensates for these undesira-
ble fluctuations. It can be used in combination with any NR sys-
tem while making a recording. There is no need to set the button
to ON during playback. Furthermore, cassettes recorded using
'Dolby HX PRO can be played back on decks not equipped with
this system.
To use Dolby HX PRO, set the Dolby HX PRO selector button
22] to the on position (HX PRO indicator
[22] lights).
Auto Space Recording Pause
The 00 PAUSE key 85} is normally used to cut out unwanted
portions of aprogram (commercials, conversations, etc.) while
making a recording. However, this often results in a tape in
which the next song begins immediately after the last one ends.
The
©
AUTO SPACE key
is provided to solve this
problem. To use this key, just press it once at the point in the
recording where you want to enter a blank section about five se-
conds long. When the AUTO SPACE key is pressed, the play
indicator flashes on and off and tape transport continues.
However, no signal is recorded on the tape for a period of about
five seconds. After the blank portion has been inserted, tape
transport automatically stops and the deck returns to the
REC/PAUSE standby mode. To insert a blank section of tape less
than five seconds long, press the [> PLAY key
before the
five second period has elapsed to return to the recording mode
or press the 00 PAUSE key
£5] to return to the REC/PAUSE
standby mode. To insert a blank section of tape more than five
seconds long, keep the OQ AUTO SPACE key
pressed for
as long as you want the blank section to be. The deck will return
to the REC/PAUSE standby mode immediately after the key is
released. To continue recording, press the PLAY key to release
the pause mode. This key is very convenient for making blank
sections of sufficient length for automatic song sensing systems
such as AMCS that operate by detecting blank sections between
songs.
Using the Repeat Modes
1. Single Repeat
Use this mode to play a specific song repeatedly up to five
times. First, press the single repeat key
[t!] (SINGLE indica-
tor
lights) and then press the [> PLAY key
. The
song currently being played will now be heard repeatedly for
a maximum of five times. After the fifth time, tape playback
will continue to the end of the cassette. To play the song
more than five times, press the repeat reset button
[13] to
cancel the repeat mode and then press the single repeat key
again.
Note:
If the gap between songs is too short or noisy, the sin-
gle repeat mode may not function properly.
2. Full Repeat
Use this mode to play an entire cassette side repeatedly up to
five times. First, press the full repeat key
[12] (FULL indicator
lights) and then press the [> PLAY key
. The cas-
sette
side will now
be heard
repeatedly
for a maximum
of five times. To play the cassette more than five times,
press the repeat reset button
[13] to cancel the repeat mode
and then press the full repeat key again.
Using the AMCS keys
The AMCS
function is useful for quickly checking the contents
of a Cassette tape. When either the << or D> AMCS key 81] is
pressed, the tape is rapidly wound to the beginning of the next
song in the direction of the AMCS key pressed and about the
first ten seconds is played. Next, tape is again rapidly wound in
the same direction and about the first ten seconds of the next
song is played. This process continues until the end of the tape
is reached. To continue listening to the song currently being
heard, press the [> PLAY key
to return to the normal play-
back mode.
|
Note:
The AMCS function operates by detecting the blank sec-
tions between songs. If the spaces between songs are
too short or noisy or if there is a section of a song that
could be mistakenly detected as a blank gap (for example,
a quiet section of music immediately followed by a loud
- section), AMCS
may not operate properly. When making
recordings, use the @ AUTO SPACE key
to be sure
that the gaps between songs are long enough for the
AMCS function to detect.
Accubias Operation
AUTO ACCUBIAS
1. Insert a cassette.
2. Confirm that the Dolby HX PRO selector button
[22] is in the
OFF position.
3. Set the Auto Accubias Preset Switch
to the desired po-
sition (—2, —1, 0, +1, +2).

4. Press the © Record and [Jf] Pause keys
[3] , 85] to put the
deck in the record/pause standby mode.
5. Press the Auto Accubias START key
[25] (on the left). Tape
transport will now begin as the Accubias indicator
[9] for the
desired setting flashes on and off to show that the bias is be-
ing automatically adjusted.
6. When the bias has been set to the desired point, the Accu-
bias indicator
[9] for the desired setting will remain lit, the
tape will be automatically rewound to the position from
which Accubias operation was begun and the deck will
return to the record/pause standby mode.
7. This completes the Accubias adjustment procedure. Now
begin recording in the normal manner.
8. To cancel the Accubias setting, press the Auto Accubias
RESET key
(on the right).
Note:
©
Accubias operation is immediately stopped if the
Auto Accubias START key is pressed at the begin-
ning of a cassette before the magnetic section of
the tape has reached the heads.
e
If you accidentally turn the Accubias Preset Switch
when one of the Accubias Indicators
[9] is lit,
either repeat steps 3 — 5 above or cancel the
Accubias setting (step 8).
e The Auto Accubias switch have no effect on the
deck during playback.
Timer Recording and Playback
When connected to an audio timer, this unit can be set for
preset timer recording and playback. Connect the tape deck and
the rest of the audio system to the audio timer and test the ar-
rangement to be sure that timer recording and playback proceed
properly. Refer to the audio timer instruction manual for instruc-
tions on connecting the system.
1. Timer Recording
For timer recording, tune to the desired radio station and ad-
just the tape deck input level to the proper recording level.
Then set the timer to switch the power on at the desired time
and set the Timer/Memory switch
to the REC position.
e
Note that the power switches of this unit and the audio sys-
tem must be left ON.
e
If no sound is required from the speakers during the actual
recording, turn the amplifier volume control down.
