1 General safety instructions

Important Instructions for Your Safety. Please read and observe.
Correct and safe operation of the devices, calls for appropriate transportation and storage, expert instal-
lation and commissioning as well as correct operation and meticulous maintenance.
Only those persons conversant with the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of sim-
ilar apparatuses and who possess the necessary qualifications are allowed to work on the transmitters.
Please take note of
– the contents of these Operating Instructions,
– the safety regulations affixed to the devices,
– the safety regulations pertaining to the installation and operation of electrical systems as well as
– the directives and guidelines on explosion protection.
The user must ensure that units connected to the devices fulfil the appropriate requirements of the ac-
cident prevention regulations VBG4.
The directives, norms and guidelines mentioned in these Operating Instructions are applicable in the
Federal Republic of Germany. When using the devices in other countries, please observe the national
regulations prevailing in the respective country.
The devices have been designed and tested in accordance with IEC 1010-1 (correspond to DIN EN 61010-
1 and DIN VDE 0411 part 1) "Safety requirements for electrical measurement, control and laboratory
equipment", and have been supplied in a safe condition. In order to retain th is condition and to ensure
safe operation, the safety instructions in these Operating Instructions bearing the headline "DANGER",
„WARNING", „CAUTION" or „NOTICE" must be observed. Otherwise, persons can be endangered and
the devices themselves as well as other equipment and facilities can be damaged.

2 Application and brief description

The temperature sensor TSHY (SensyTemp) HY R-4E) is designed specifically to be used for temperature
measurement on surfaces of vessels and has the appropriate special construction, material, and mounting
capabilities. The temperature is measured indirectly through surface temperature measurement. Thus, it is not
necessary to puncture the vessel wall, which is an optimal condition in terms of hygiene and cleaning. However,
this method -implies a longer half-value time.
At the point where the sensor is mounted the seat surface must be absolutely plane. This is an important
prerequisite for exact measurement. The sensor is mounted by means of the respective welding collar, which
has to be welded to the outside of the vessel wall. The housing with the sensor must be screwed off the collar
before welding.
The sensor is pressed against the wall by a spring to provide for exact temperature measurement. Adding a
heatconductive paste reduces the half value time from 20 seconds to 10 seconds.
The used Pt 100 measuring element is in accordance with EN 60751 Class A. The measured value can be
transmitted directly as Pt 100 signal or by the output signal of a built-in transmitter.
