SPECIFIED CONDITIONS OF USE
This device helps to pinpoint the exact location of AC "live"
wires, rebar, iron or copper. The large and graphic LCD
displays proximity and depth of metal determining allowable
drilling depth.
Do not use this product in any other way as stated for
normal use.

BATTERY INSTALLATION
1. Open the battery door at the back of the unit.
4
2. Insert one 9V alkaline battery
3. Close the battery compartment.
4. If the low battery indicator appears on the display, it's
time to replace the battery.
5. Caution: With a low battery, it cannot be ensured that the
unit functions in an error free manner.
WORKING INSTRUCTIONS
Detecting Metal
5
1. The unit should be switched on at arms length with the
ON / OFF button away from any metal objects (note that
rings or watches can effect the initial calibration). The
CAL symbol appears in the display indicating calibration
is in progress.
2. After 2 seconds the CAL symbol disappears from the
display and a "bip" tone indicates the unit is now ready for
operation. If calibration is failed, some segments will flash
on the LCD, and the beeper will sound on and off 6 times.
3. Select the type of metal and level of sensitivity to be
searched for by double clicking the ON/OFF button.
Mode 1 is used for searching for iron (ie. iron pipe), mode
2 is best suited to searching for steel re-bar and mode 3
is used for detecting copper pipe.
Mode 1
Mode 2
4. Place the unit against the wall surface and move over the
search area. When metal is detected, the bar graph
shown in display will be activated.
5. Continue to move over the surface several times from
both directions until the bar graph reaches a maximum
and low level again. Then an audible "beep" will sound to
indicate the detected object is found.
6. To find the exact location of METAL pipes, move over the
search area several times from both directions; the
continuous acoustic sound of "beep, beep, beep" will be
produced when the unit approaches the centre range of
the material. To locate the center of the pipe move the
unit in one direction and mark the wall in line with the
notch on the unit once you hear the "beep, beep, beep".
Now scan the wall from the opposite direction and mark
the wall again in line with the notch once you hear the
acoustic signal "beep, beep, beep". The metal is located
at the center of two marks with a 7mm tolerance.
7. Depth measurement is only applicable for rebar in
concrete.
Detecting AC "Live " Wires
1. The unit should be switched on at arms length with the
ON / OFF button away from any metal objects (even
rings or watches can effect the initial calibration). The
CAL symbol appears in the display indicating calibration
is in progress (fig. 1).
2. After 2 seconds the CAL symbol disappears from the
display and a "beep" tone indicates the unit is now ready
for operation (fig. 2). If calibration is failed, some
segments will flash on the LCD, and the beeper will
sound on and off 6 times.
3. Press the AC button once to start AC live wire detection.
The AC picture icon will appear on the LCD display when
in operation.
4. While using the AC wire detection mode it is also possible
to locate metal at the same time by switching the metal
detection function on.
5. Place the unit against the wall surface and move over the
search area. When metal is detected, the bar graph
shown in display will be activated. Upon initial detection
of a live wire the red LED at the top of the unit will flash,
continue to scan over the surface until the red LED is
continuously illuminated and simultaneously a audible
"beep" can be heard - the exact location of the live wire is
now detected.
6. If metal is also detected in the scanned area refer to the
section "Detecting Metal "to locate the exact positioning.
7. A depth measurement of AC wire is not possible.
Cautions:
• Calibration E (Error) will occur if tool is placed directly
over a metal.
• For exact detection, move over the search area several
times from both directions.
Mode 3
• The increase in height of the bar graph is dependent on
the size, depth and type of metal as well as the material
of wall. The height increases with the proximity.
• Only when AC "live" wire is detected will the red LED on
top of the unit be continuously illuminated together with a
continuous "beep" sound. The exception is when walls
contain electric magnetic fields which cause the red LED
to illuminate simultaneously with the audible "beep"
signal.
• Damp or moist walls (fresh laid concrete) make detection
extremely difficult for metal and AC wires.
Depth Measurement
Caution: This function is only suitable for rebar in concrete.
A depth measurement of AC wire is not possible.
1. Switch the unit on and select the metal to be detected
2. Move the unit to the location of maximum bar graph
height.
3. Read the depth measurement on the display. When the
height of the bar graph is at 50mm this shows that a
metal object is approx. 50mm in the wall.
Switching Off
1. To switch off the AC detection function, simply press the
AC button once.
2. To switch off the complete unit, hold the ON / OFF button
for 3 seconds.
The device switches off automatically after approx. 3
minutes
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS:
To avoid all risks of serious injuries, never drill or cut into a
wall in which there are electric wires or pipes. If there are
electric wires in the wall, cut the electric circuit before
carrying out any work.
Operating conditions
The detector is designed to scan dry structures, indoors
only. Three factors can affect the measurement: wall
thickness, density and internal humidity.
