7. Measuring operation
Warning
• Never exceed the maximum permitted input values for
current and voltage.
• Never grip the test prods outside of the grip area
identi ed with tactile markings while taking a
measurement.
Risk of electric shock
Only the two measuring cables required for the respective
measuring operation may be connected to the measuring
device. For safety reasons, remove all measuring cables
from the measuring device that are not required.
7.1 Voltage measurement „V"
Warning
Before measuring the voltage, always make sure that the
measuring device is not set to the measuring range for
current or resistance.
• To measure DC voltages (V
• Switch on the "EM393B" by turning the switch to the
largest measuring range (300 V=, DC).
• Plug the measuring cables into the measuring sockets
according to the colour coding.
• Connect the two test prods to the object to be measured
(battery, circuit, etc.).
• The red test prod corresponds to the positive pole, the
black test prod to the negative pole.
• The respective polarity of the measured value together with
the actual measured value is shown on the display.
• Depending on the result, you can now adjust the
measuring range by turning the switch.
• If you measure the DC voltage and a minus sign "-" is
shown in front of the measured value, the measured
voltage is negative (or the measuring cables are reversed).
• After completing the measuring process, remove the
measuring cables from the object to be measured and
switch off the "EM393B" (rotary switch in "OFF" position).
• To measure AC voltages (V ~), proceed as follows:
• Put the "EM393B" into operation as described for the
measuring of DC voltage and select the largest measuring
range (300 V~, AC).
• Connect the two test prods to the object to be measured
(generator, circuit, etc.).
• The measured value is shown on the display.
• Depending on the result, you can now adjust the
measuring range by turning the switch.
), proceed as follows:
• After completing the measuring process, remove the
measuring cables from the object to be measured and
switch off the "EM393B" (rotary switch in "OFF" position).
7.2 Current measurement „A"
Warning
• The maximum permissible voltage must not exceed
300 V.
• Measurements above 200 mA may only be carried out
for a maximum of 10 seconds and with a subsequent
break of at least 15 minutes between measurements.
To measure direct currents (A
• Plug the red measuring cable into the 10 A measuring
socket (blue, for currents >200 mA) or into the red
measuring socket (for currents <200 mA). Plug the black
measuring cable into the COM measuring socket.
• Select the largest measuring range, i.e., 200 mA for low
direct currents; for larger currents, set the selection switch
to 10 A.
• Connect the two test prods in series to the object to be
measured (battery, circuit, etc.); the respective polarity of
the measured value together with the actual measured
value is shown on the display.
• Depending on the result, you can now adjust the
measuring range by turning the switch (in this case: direct
current less than 20 mA).
• After completing the measuring process, remove the
measuring cables from the object to be measured and
switch off the "EM393B" (rotary switch in "OFF" position).
Warning
• Never measure currents in excess of 10 A in the 10 A
range, as this can result in
damage to the "EM393B". Also, never measure currents
in excess of 200 mA in the mA range, as this would trip
the internal microfuse.
• Alternating currents cannot be measured with the
"EM393B"!
7.3 Resistance measurement „ "
Warning
Always make sure that all circuitry components, circuits
and parts to be measured as well as other objects to be
measured are disconnected from the power supply and
discharged.
