4. Design and Function
The B.A.T Safe is a double-walled, steel-insulated box that holds the heat of a battery fire. In the case of a battery fire, smoke and hot exhaust
gases are discharged through the top of the box. The top of the box is designed to filter the flame and diffuse the hot exhaust gases to prevent
flame or soot radiation from escaping.
In case of fire, a large amount of hot white smoke is released through the ventilation holes. Make sure that there is free space (1 meter) above
the lid. The products of the combustion can be harmful, so windows and / or doors should be open so that the smoke can escape the area.
People with lung disease or owners of susceptible pets (e.g. birds) should be extremely careful.
!
Carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal
Carbon monoxide detectors for residential use are purchasable. The dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning after incomplete combustion
of fuels in a closed space must be considered. A lipo battery firing generates dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide in a confined space.
Maximum battery size
Do not charge or store more than two 5000 mAh batteries at the same time. Please also observe the safety instructions of the batteries you
use!
Use of B.A.T Safe
•
Follow the battery and charger instructions when using the B.A.T Safe.
•
Make sure the B.A.T Safe is on a flame retardant surface.
•
Make sure that the ventilation holes in the lid are 1 meter away from flammable objects.
•
Make sure the lid is closed and locked when charging or storing the batteries.
•
Make sure that the cable duct is installed and fully seated.
•
Do not use the B.A.T Safe if you detect a damage or a defect.
•
The B.A.T Safe is designed to reduce the risk of damage in case of fire.
How to proceed in case of fire:
!
The B.A.T Safe will emit white, smelling smoke during a fire. These exhaust gases are extremely hot. Therefore stay away until the battery is
completely burnt. A significant reduction in smoke from the vents indicates that the battery fire is dying down.
The products of combustion can be particularly harmful when confined in a small space. Immediately open doors and windows to disperse
the exhaust gases. Touching the surfaces of the B.A.T Safe during a fire can cause skin burns.
Let the B.A.T Safe cool down, then go outside to remove damaged batteries. Do not open the B.A.T Safe during a battery fire.
Preparation for use
•
Take the B.A.T Safe out of the box and remove all protective packaging materials.
•
Remove parts from the inside of the B.A.T Safe.
•
When installing the charger bracket, place the tabs in the ventilation holes and use the velcro provided to secure the bracket to the back
of the B.A.T Safe cover.
•
When placing your charger on the charging stand, use the supplied velcro fastener. Make sure that the charger does not affect the
exhaust ports.
•
Use the pull handles for the easy installation of the cable path seal. Place the charging wires between each half of the cable path, and
then pull the cable. After that put the cable gland through the opening in the box lid. Make sure there are no gaps and that the upper
and lower lip of the cable path is in place.
•
Connect the charger and compensating leads as usual. Make sure that no cables are coming out of the battery outlet openings.
•
Place the B.A.T Safe on a fireproof surface and leave at least 1 meter of clearance above the lid.
•
Charge the batteries as recommended in the charger instructions.
It should be noted: battery margins are extremely rare. Do not let this lead to carelessness during the store. Use the B.A.T Safe as intended
during each charging process!
