Intended use
The SPM100 respiratory protection mask may be used as a product within the sense of personal
protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with 2016/425/EU in accordance with the following expla-
nations or for uses approved by the manufacturer.
The SPM100 respiratory protection mask is used with an FFP2 filter insert, PPE category III, in order
to prevent the inhalation and/or transfer of particles, droplets and aerosols. This filter unit filters parti-
cles from the air inhaled by the wearer within the specified limit values of the filter used.
The SPM100 respiratory protection mask is not a product covered by the Medicines Directive.
Further technical information as well as the current Declaration of Conformity can be found at
www.schmersal.com/SPM100.
Approvals
Standardised name/applied standards:
Particle-filtering half mask: EN 149:2001+A1:2009 FFP2 NR
The current Declaration of Conformity can be downloaded from www.schmersal.com/SPM100.
Standard reference: Official Journal of the European Union 2018/C 209/03.
Warning against improper use
Improper use, misuse or manipulation of the respiratory protection mask can lead to hazards
to persons that could give rise to a hazard to health.
Use
The ambient air oxygen content must not fall below the following:
– Minimum 17 Vol.-% oxygen in all European countries except the Netherlands, Belgium and the
United Kingdom
– Minimum 19 Vol.-% oxygen in the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Australia and New
Zealand
– Minimum 19.5 Vol.-% oxygen in the USA
Observe national guidelines in other countries!
The filters in the respiratory protection mask will only function correctly if they are clean and dry.
Moist filters (e.g. due to influences such as fog, rain, splashing water, etc.) must be treated as if the
maximum wearing duration has been reached; if in doubt, new filters should be inserted before reuse.
Facial hair and the like can impair the tight fit of the half mask and thereby adversely affect the
leakage requirements.
– It must be ensured that the the surrounding atmosphere cannot change unfavourably.
– Non-ventilated containers, pits, channels, etc. must not be entered with the respiratory protection
mask.
– Do not use in oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
– Not suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
– Do not use used or damaged filters in the respiratory protection mask.
– Use only original filter inserts from K.A. Schmersal GmbH & Co. KG.
The applicable national regulations concerning the use of filter units must be carefully followed.
The ambient conditions (especially the type and concentration of oxygen) must be known. If the
oxygen is unknown, use only compressed-air breathing apparatus or compressed-air line breathing
apparatus.
Limitation of liability
All liability for damage resulting from a failure to observe this user information or from the use of
replacement or accessory parts not approved by the manufacturer is excluded.
Unauthorised repairs, conversions or changes are not permitted for reasons of safety and the manu-
facturer shall accept no liability for resulting damage.
This respiratory protection mask is a hygiene article and is therefore excluded from the right of return
or exchange.
Assembly
Step 1
Remove the mask from the packaging. Visually inspect the mask for damage. Press
the mask seal ➁ into the groove in the mask base body ➀. Ensure a flush fit.
Step 2
Attach the head straps ➅ to the mask base body with the strap buckles.
Step 3
The straps must be adjusted so that the mast seals at all points on the face.
Step 4
Insert the filter seals ➂.
Step 5
Insert the filter inserts ➃ so that the imprint points outwards, ensuring hygienic
handling and a flush fit.
Step 6
Position the filter protection cap ➄ and close it with the bayonet closure until it clicks
into place.
CLIC
The filter protection caps are correctly closed when the bayonet closures are en-
gaged. Do not turn any further! Doing so could damage the bayonet closures.

Checks before use
The head straps must be adjusted so that the mast seals at all points on the face.
All parts must be checked to ensure that they are intact before use. Damaged or incomplete respira-
tory protection masks must not be used.
Before each use, check that there is a filter insert in the designated opening on each side of the mask
and that it has been inserted correctly.
Only parts in a perfect condition and that have been fitted correctly may be used.
Soiled parts must be cleaned and disinfected before use.
Soiled filter inserts must not be cleaned but instead replaced with new, unused filter inserts.
The bayonet closures must not be damaged or tilted and must be properly closed and locked in place
at all points.
Wearing instructions
Pull the lower strap of the mask over your head.
Ensure that the strap is under the ears.
Pulled the upper strap over your head.
The strap should be above the ears.
The mask is fitted correctly if the mask seal is in contact with the skin over its
entire length, even when the head is moved.
Inspection and maintenance intervals
Work to be carried out
Check by the wearer
Cleaning and disinfection
Visual inspection and function check
The recommendations in EN 529:2005 must be observed.
Wearing duration
When using the reusable respiratory protection mask, the filter insert must be replaced after one shift
(eight hours) or in the event of noticeable changes to breathing resistance; the mask base body must
be disinfected.
➃ Filter inserts (2x)
➄ Filter protection
We recommend wearing the respiratory protection mask for a maximum of 75 minutes without inter-
caps (2x)
ruption. A recovery time of 30 minutes should then be observed.
Cleaning/disinfection
All reusable parts of the mask are made from resistant materials that are suitable for cleaning,
disinfection and sterilisation. Clean and disinfect the half mask after each use. The recommended
intervals for changing the filter insert must be observed.
When removing the filters, ensure that the safety stipulations for handling any contaminated
materials (e.g. the mask or filters) are observed.
Incorrect cleaning/disinfection/sterilisation
If agents, chemicals or processes not specified in this document have been used, it must
be assumed that the respiratory protection mask has been damaged and no further use is
permitted.
If the process described in the disinfection procedure has not been observed, the mask must
be considered contaminated and re-prepared in accordance with the disinfection instructions.
Silicone tends to absorb cleaning and disinfection agents. With repeat cleaning and disin-
fection, these agents can accumulate in the silicone. This can result in skin irritation when
wearing the mask. Ensure that the cleaning and disinfection process is followed carefully.
Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water for ten minutes.
1. Remove the filter inserts.
2. Prepare a cleaning solution of water and a cleaning agent.
3. Clean all parts with a soft cloth and a cleaning solution.
4. Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water.
5. Prepare a disinfectant bath of water and a disinfectant.
6. Insert parts that need to be disinfected into the disinfectant bath in accordance with the specifica-
tions of the disinfectant manufacturer.
7. Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water.
8. Allow all parts to dry in the air or in a drying cabinet (temperature max. 60°C). Protect from direct
sunlight.
Wear gloves during the procedure.
Replacement filter accessories
The filter insert is available as an accessory.
Material designation: FILTER INSERT SPM-U100
Material number: 103038849
Replacement filter storage
Filter inserts should be stored in a cool and dry place in their original packaging. Protect from direct
sunlight and heat radiation. Filters should be stored in rooms with normal humidity levels, tempera-
tures and non-polluted air.
Storage temperature: -20°C to +35°C
max
min
Relative humidity: <80%
<max%
Different storage conditions can significantly affect the maximum storage duration. The use-by
date is printed on every item of packaging containing a filter, using standardised pictograms.
Inserting the filter insert
Open and remove the bayonet closures on the filter protection caps.
Carefully remove the filter from the packaging, ensuring hygienic handling, and insert into the mask
base body.
Filter protec-
Filter insert
tion cap
When inserting the filters, ensure that they are evenly seated, i.e. no kinks or folds, and note
that each filter has a bottom and top. The filter opening in the mask base body must be com-
pletely covered. Insert the filter inserts so that the imprint points outwards.
The previously removed filter protection caps must then be placed back in the designated position
on the mask base body and turned with light pressure and rotation in the closure direction until the
bayonet engages.
Changing the filter insert
When changing the filter, the mask base body must be inspected to ensure that it is intact.
It must be ensured that the contact surfaces of the filter inserts on the mask base body are smooth
and even and that the bayonet closures are intact.
Damaged or incomplete respiratory protection masks must not be used.
Open the filter protection caps on the left and right. To do this, the filter protection caps must be
rotated until the bayonet opens.
Once the bayonet has been opened, the filter holders can be removed from the mask base body in
the next step. The filters can now be removed.
When removing the filters, ensure that the safety stipulations for handling any contaminated
materials (e.g. the mask or filters) are observed.
The new filter inserts should be inserted in accordance with the procedure outlined above.
If the bayonet closure of a filter prediction cap was opened again after inserting the filter insert,
the filter insert must be replaced again as pressing, loosening and pressing the filter again
may have caused cracks to appear in the sensitive filter insert.
Disposing of the filter inserts
Depending on their use, the filter inserts must be properly disposed of as contaminated waste in
accordance with the national regulations and laws.
