Safety instructions
D amage due to failure to follow these operating instructions will void the warranty!
We do not assume any liability for any resulting damage!
W e do not assume any liability for personal injuries and material damages caused by
the improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cases, the
warranty will be null and void.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is not permitted for
safety and approval reasons (CE). Do not disassemble the product.
• The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, enclosed spaces, it must not get damp or
wet.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
• Do not apply force when connecting the USB plugs! A USB plug fits in the USB
socket only on one of its sides.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the location of installation and during
transport:
- Dampness or excessive humidity
- Extreme cold or heat, direct sunlight
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found in the vicinity of machinery or loud-
speakers
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
Connection and start-up
• Connect the USB3.0 hub, via the USB cable, to a free USB3.0 port on your computer. The com-
puter does not need to be switched off.
If the USB3.0 hub is powered, the blue power LED of the USB3.0 hub lights up.
The operating system of your computer will detect the new hardware, and automatically install
the required driver; they are already present in the operating system.
• Now connect your USB devices to the USB ports of the USB3.0 hub. Depending on the USB
device, the operating system launches the driver installation.
Of course, USB2.0 and USB1.1 devices can be connected and operated on the USB3.0
hub.
Information for powering USB devices
According to the USB3.0 standard, a USB3.0 port provides a current of 900 mA (e.g. the USB3.0
port on your computer).
However, many USB3.0 devices only require a much lower current, e.g. USB flash drives. Other
USB3.0 devices are powered by their own power supply unit (e.g. large USB3.0 hard drives).
The USB3.0 hub supplied here does not include a power supply unit, therefore only a total current
of about 800 mA is left for the four USB ports (the USB3.0 hub itself requires about 100 mA).
If the USB3.0 hub devices are connected to relatively high voltage, then you can connect a power
supply unit with a stabilised output voltage of 5 V/DC to the USB3.0 hub (not included in the de-
livery).
The round plug required for the connection must have an external diameter of 3.5 mm and an
internal diameter of 1.3 mm. The inner contact of the round plug must be plus/+, the outer contact
minus/-.
The current to be delivered by the power supply unit that you are using depends on the type and
number of the USB devices connected.
If you require a current of 900 mA for all USB3.0 ports, then you need to connect a power supply
unit with a minimum output current of 3.7 A to the USB3.0 hub (4 x 900 mA for the USB ports and
100 mA for the USB3.0 hub).
Tips and notes
• The USB3.0 hub is USB2.0- and USB1.1-compatible. This means that normal USB2.0 and USB1.1
devices can be used without any problem on the USB3.0 hub. However, this will not speed up
the USB2.0/ USB1.1 devices.
• In order to take advantage of the high speed provided by USB3.0, all the following devices must
support USB3.0: the USB device itself (e.g. an external hard disk), the USB hub and the USB
controller in the computer.
• The theoretical maximum speed for USB3.0 (or also USB2.0 or USB1.1) is never achieved in
practice. This is due to protocol information, simultaneous operation of several USB devices or
the speed limit of the connected device or the USB controllers/motherboards.
It also makes little sense to simultaneously operate 4 hard drives via the USB3.0 hub, as these
share the possible volume of data transmission between the USB3.0 hub and the computer.
If, for example, a lot of data is to be transferred between two USB3.0 hard drives, connect one
hard drive to the USB3.0 port and connect the second one directly to a USB3.0 port on the com-
puter.
• Normally USB operation is not possible in DOS or in the protected mode of older Windows ver-
sions. Depending on the computer or the BIOS/Setup, however, operation of a USB keyboard
and a USB mouse is possible. Nevertheless, it is necessary to connect them directly to the
computer's USB interface and not to the USB hub.
• USB devices can be connected and disconnected during operation. You do not have to switch
off your computer if you want to insert or remove devices.
If data transfers are in progress on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data into
the computer, and you unplug the USB connector, Windows might crash. This may also result in
data loss or even damage to the file system on the external drive.
• In Windows
XP, Vista™, 7, 8, an icon with an arrow in the menu bar is displayed for some USB
®
devices (e.g. for a USB hard disk). With this function you can "disconnect" the USB device from
the computer so that no data transfer occurs any longer. You can then unplug the USB device
from the USB3.0 hub (or computer) without any risk.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product is maintenance-free. Repair or maintenance work must be carried out by a specialist.
You can use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Dust can be very easily removed with a soft, clean
brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive, chemical or scouring cleaning agents, as this may lead to discolouration or
changes in the material on the surface.
Disposal
The product must not be disposed of in the household waste.
Dispose of the product at the end of its serviceable life in accordance with the current
statutory requirements; e.g. return it to any suitable collection point.
