USB Extension via Patch Cable
Item no. 972461
Intended use
This USB extension consists of a transmission unit and reception unit that can extend
the distance between PC and USB device to a maximum of 60 metres. Both devices
are connected via an optional RJ45 network cable (CAT5e). Power supply is provided
via a computer USB socket or, alternatively, via an optional power supply unit (5 V/DC,
2 A).
Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the device are inadmissible because
of safety and approval reasons (CE). Any usage other than described above is not per-
mitted and can damage the product and lead to associated risks such as short-circuit,
fire, electric shock, etc. Please read the operating instructions thoroughly and keep
them for further reference.

Connection
Attention!
B oth adapters must be connected directly via the network cable with each
other. When connecting this cable to a network switch or similar, both the
USB extension system as well as the network switch are destroyed! Only
use a completely switched 1:1 connected standard network cable, not a
so-called cross link cable.

Connect the adapters via one single RJ45 network cable (CAT5e), see illustration
above. Plug one end of the network cable into the corresponding socket on Adap-
ter 1 (A), the other end into the corresponding socket on Adapter 2 (B).

Connect the USB plug of Adapter 1 (A) with a free USB port on your PC.
Make sure that this is a so-called high-power USB port. This is a USB port
with own power supply that can provide a current of 500 mA per USB port
("self-powered USB port", e.g. the USB port of a mainboard or USB hub with
own power pack).
Alternatively, power can be supplied via an optional power supply unit
(5 V/DC, 2 A). For this, connect the power supply unit with the corresponding
socket of Adapter 2 (B).
The power supply is required if the USB device to be connected has a higher
power consumption (approximately a 6.35 cm / 2.5"-USB hard disk without
its own power supply) or you notice the connected USB device has functio-
nality problems.

As the extension system behaves like a common cable, Windows DOES NOT de-
tect any new hardware.

Now connect the desired USB device to the USB socket (D) of Adapter 2 (B). Win-
dows should now detect the USB device (this might require a driver installation),
e.g. a mouse, a keyboard or an external USB hard drive.
Tips and hints
• Of course, you can also plug the extension system into a USB2.0 port or operate
USB2.0 devices via the extension system. However, the data transfer speed is limi-
ted to USB1.1 (max. approx. 12 Mbit, effectively approx. 1 Mbyte/s). USB2.0 devices
therefore only work in the slower USB1.1 mode.
• Only use a completely switched 1:1 connected standard network cable (CAT5e).
• The use of additional active USB extension cables (or the application of a second ex-
tension system with network cable) should be avoided as this may lead to malfunc-
tions. In individual cases, the connected USB device may also become damaged!
Disposal
In order to preserve, protect and improve the quality of environment, protect
human health and utilise natural resources prudently and rationally, the user
should return unserviceable product to relevant facilities in accordance
with statutory regulations.
The crossed-out wheeled bin indicates the product needs to be disposed
separately and not as municipal waste.
