General
The RS Twinspot Luminaire is a self-contained non-maintained
emergency luminaire with a 3 hour duration. It is designed for internal
use only and is particularly suitable for areas such as offices, corridors,
stairways etc. where appearance of fittings may be important.
Installation
Notes:
1. a. The environment should be clean, cool and dry.
b. The luminaire should be mounted so that the lampheads are not
tampered with by unauthorised personnel.
c. Avoid high temperatures. Do not install near heaters or heating
pipes etc. Above 30°C battery life will be reduced.
2. Remove the two upper screws, one each end of the unit and swing
the mounting plate to the open position.
3. For ease of working the mounting plate may be completely
removed, or the batteries removed.
4. Fasten the mounting plate to the wall.
5. Connect the 240V supply cables:

6. Fit the batteries, and connect taking great care to observe correct
polarity.
+ Positive Lead - Red
- Negative Lead - Yellow
CAUTION: Reverse polarity will damage the luminaire.
7. Re-assemble and energise the mains supply as soon as possible. If
the battery leads are left connected without
period longer than 72 hours, then permanent damage to the battery
may result.
If the
mains is going to be off for longer than 72 hours at any
time, disconnect the battery unit until
Operation
1. Energising the
mains will extinguish the floodlamps and the
amber "AC ON" indicator will illuminate. If the battery has been
discharged substantially the red "Hl CHG" indicator will also show,
but as the battery approaches full charge it will extinguish.

2. To test the luminaire, use the TEST SWITCH to simulate
failure. The emergency lamps should illuminate showing proper
operation. When the test switch is released the emergency lamps
should extinguish and the "Hl CHG" indicator will show.
Maintenance
The equipment is fully automatic and the batteries are of the sealed
lead acid type. No maintenance is necessary.
Inspection
BS 5266 Part 1 recommends that routine tests are carried out as
follows:
Once a month each unit should be tested by interruption of the mains
to ensure correct functioning.
Twice a year each unit should be tested for 1 hour.
Every three years each unit should be tested for the full duration (3
hours, supplying two lamps). If this would leave the building without
emergency cover this may not be practicable.
Troubleshooting
1. Open the unit and disconnect the battery from the charger.
2. Using a
voltmeter, check battery voltage is between 12 to 13V.
3. Using the
voltmeter check the charger by measuring the
voltage across the leads that normally connect to the battery. The
reading should be 13.6V. A reading differing from 13.6V by more
than 0.4V indicates a defective charger.
4. If the battery and charger are satisfactory, inspect the lampheads for
filament continuity.
Warning
The battery is sealed, however, if the case is accidently broken,
sulphuric acid may be released. If this comes into contact with the skin
or clothes, wash with water and neutralise with a solution of sodium
bicarbonate. If in contact with the eye or mouth, repeat and get medical
attention immediately.
