Replacement battery for EC3 series
General information:
The EC3 series contains a lead acid gel battery for the purpose of automatically
closing the EX series electronic control valve should there be a mains power loss.
The EC3 contains a charging circuit, which monitors the charging current absorbed
by the battery. Under normal operating conditions (T
battery should have several years of operation. At T
life expectancy of the battery is 2 years. When the battery can no longer maintain
sufficient charge to close the valve, the EC3 will display an alarm code on the ECD
display module. When the term "Ab" battery health failure appears, it is time to
replace the battery. This document describes the replacement procedure.

Allgemeine Information:
Die Baureihe EC3 enthält einen Blei-Gel Akkumulator, mit dessen Hilfe
schrittmotorgesteuerte Regelventile der EX Baureihen bei einem Stromausfall
geschlossen werden. Die Ladeautomatik des EC3 Reglers überwacht den
Ladestrom des Akkumulators. Normalerweise beträgt die Lebensdauer des
Akkumulators mehrere Jahre (Umgebungstemperatur 1 ... 25°C). Bei einer
Umgebungstemperatur von mehr als 35°C ist die Batterie nach maximal 2 Jahren
verbraucht. Wenn seine Kapazität im Lauf der Zeit zu klein geworden ist um das
Ventil zu schließen, leuchtet an der ECD Anzeigeeinheit der Batteriealarm Ab auf.
Jetzt muss der Akkumulator ausgetauscht werden. Dieser Akkumulatortausch wird
im vorliegenden Dokument beschrieben.

empfehlen vorher das elektrische Regelventil zu schließen.

nicht kurzschließen.

• The EC3 series contains a VRLA battery = valve
regulated rechargeable lead-acid battery. When the
EC3 battery charge alarm indicator is illuminated, the
battery should be replaced using Alco part number:
807 790. The battery must NOT be disposed of with
other commercial waste. Instead, it is the user
responsibility to pass it to a designated collection point
for the safe recycling of Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (WEEE directive 2002/95/EC).

Marking:
Installation:
• Carefully remove both end caps of the housing (end cap screws up to 2005: No. 4
Spanner, as of 2005 Torx T10H).
• From the left hand side, press the tab of the white connector and unplug.
• From the right hand side, remove the battery holder assembly.
• Cut the battery-retaining strap and remove battery. Dispose of battery as per
above instructions.
• Place new battery on holder assembly. Attach the new battery-retaining strap.
Caution should be taken when working with the EC3-331 LON controller that the
strap does not interfere with the service pin.
• Slide the battery holder assembly; cable first in from the right hand side.
• Plug the white connector onto the socket on the main circuit board.
• Replace the two end caps.
• The power to the controller can now be switched on. Ensure the controller is
switched back to automatic control mode.
• The "Ab" alarm indication on the ECD display module and the corresponding
TCP/IP webpage should not be active.

• EC3 Regler enthalten einen VRLA-Akkumulator =
wiederaufladbarer Säure-Gel Bleiakkumulator. Beim
Batteriealarm „Ab" ist dieser Akkumulator zu ersetzen
(Best.-Nr. 807 790). Achtung: Der verbrauchte
Akkumulator darf nicht im normalen Haus- oder
Gewerbemüll entsorgt werden. Er muss dem hierfür
vorgesehenen Entsorgungssystem
Richtlinie 2002/95/EC zugeführt werden. Weitere
Informationen erhalten Sie beim für Ihre Stadt
zuständigen Recyclinghof.
Einbau:
• Endkappen des Gehäuses abschrauben (Schrauben bis zum Jahr 2005: Nr. 4
Spanner Bit, ab 2005 Torx T10H).
• Von der linken Gehäuseseite aus weißen Stecker entsichern und abziehen.
• Auf der rechten Gehäuseseite Akkumulator mit Halterung herausziehen.
• Kabelbinder abschneiden, verbrauchten Akkumulator entfernen und, wie oben
beschrieben, entsorgen.
• Neuen Akkumulator einsetzen und mit neuem Kabelbinder befestigen. Bei EC3-
331 LON Controllern ist darauf zu achten, dass dabei der Service Pin nicht
beschädigt wird.
• Akkumulator und Halterung, mit dem Kabel voraus, von rechts wieder in den
EC3 einschieben.
• Weißen Stecker in den Sockel auf der Hauptplatine einstecken.
• Endkappen festschrauben.
• Jetzt kann der Regler wieder eingeschaltet werden. Darauf achten, dass der
Regler wieder im normalen Regelbetrieb arbeitet.
• Kontrollieren, ob der „Ab" Alarm auf der ECD Anzeigeeinheit und der
entsprechenden TCP/IP WebSeite verschwunden ist.
