The information contained within this data sheet regarding applications
and installation of RS Parallel heating tape is for guidance only. The
user must satisfy himself that the tape is suitable for the intended
application and does not contravene any safety requirements. If in
doubt consult BS6351 or other appropriate specifications or regulations.
General
RS Parallel heating tape is intended to provide freeze protection for
metal pipework or process heating. The tape should not be subjected to
temperatures above 200°C and is intended for use with a thermostat.
The heater zones are 1m in length and therefore heaters can be
constructed in lengths which are multiples of 1m.
Heat Losses
To calculate heat loss per metre of pipe:-

To comply with BS 6361 account should be taken of maximum heater
resistance tolerance (±10%) and voltage variation (±6%)
= 1,1= 1.25 x heat loss.

A further design factor of 10% may be added.
Installation
Heating tape should be installed on clean, dry pipe or other metal
surfaces free from burns, weld splatter or any rough or sharp
projections.
