Battery charging
IMPORTANT:
The battery charger you use must be capable
of providing the correct charging current.
Otherwise the battery may become damaged or
even explode.
Only use a battery charger which is suitable for
the capacity of your lead-acid battery. Refer to
the instruction manual of your battery charger if you
are unsure.
IMPORTANT:
In order for your lead-acid battery to perform as well
as possible, especially if it is not used continually,
you should use a charger with maintenance charging.
Use a smart charger which automatically switches
to maintenance charging and which is designed to
be connected for longer periods. Such a charger
automatically detects when your battery is fully
charged.
The best way to prolong the service life of a lead-
acid battery is to use it regularly, do not subject it to
deep discharges.
Make sure that the contact surfaces between
the battery terminals and the terminal clamps
on the battery cables are clean. Brush off any
oxidation with a wire brush and emery cloth.
Smear the terminals with terminal grease.

a source of heat or naked flame.
Never place metal objects on or next to the lead-
acid battery.
Never immerse the lead-acid battery in water or
spray it with water.
Do not subject the lead-acid battery to heavy impacts.
Never expose the lead-acid battery to prolonged
sunlight.
Do not use the lead-acid battery in explosive
environments, such as near flammable liquids,
gases or dust.
If multiple lead-acid batteries are connected in
series, they must be connected in series before they
are connected to a charger or load.
Make sure that the cables connecting the lead-
acid battery and the charger/load are always
connected from the positive (+) on the charger/load
to the positive (+) on the lead-acid battery. Similarly,
the negative (-) connector on the charger/load must
always be connected to the negative (-) terminal on
the lead-acid battery.
Be careful whenever moving or transporting the lead-
acid battery. Wear safety shoes, lead-acid batteries
are heavy and can do a lot of damage if dropped.
Never lift or carry a lead-acid battery by the battery
cables.
Make sure that any charger/load is switched
off before the lead-acid battery is connected/
disconnected.
Fitting
Fit the lead-acid battery in such a way that air can
circulate freely around it.
Make sure that the lead-acid battery is securely
anchored and cannot move or tip over during use.
All connections and connection cables must be well
insulated to prevent short-circuiting.
Storage
If the lead-acid battery is not to be used for a long
time it should be fully charged before storage and
every month it should be connected to a charger
which automatically switches to maintenance
charging.
Store and charge the lead-acid battery in a frost-free
environment.
A fully discharged or poorly charged lead-acid
battery can become damaged and eventually be
ruined if stored.
A lead-acid battery which is left fully discharged or
poorly charged over the winter for example, might
work if charged ready for the summer season but
with a reduced capacity.
