Important! The ignition switch must be in the „Off" position before:
- parts of the ignition system are replaced or repaired
- engine test tools are connected
Use and observe the manufacturer specifications for all test and adjustment work.

5. Operation

Connecting the measurement cable:
The measurement cable can be connected to the ignition timing pistol via the plug connection.
• The red and black clips provide the power supply and must be connected to the battery.
• The green clip must be connected to the ignition coil for setting the dwell angle. To measure the voltage, connect to the
plus pole of the battery.
• Connect the induction clamp to the ignition lead (cylinder 1).
!
Attention!
The arrow on the induction clamp must point to the spark plug.
Make sure that the contact breaker is not damaged and that the dwell angle is correctly set.
The technical data for the engine such as the ignition timing, test or setting rpm, must be known. The markings on the
engine are likewise to be checked and whether the vacuum adjustment has to be connected! Missing data can be taken
from the respective repair manual.
1. Bring the engine up to running temperature.
2. The correct ignition timing is to be taken from the technical data whereby the vacuum hose is to be pulled off the
vacuum chamber on the ignition distributor according to the note. If the engine then runs irregularly, close off the
end of the hose. Note! Take care that the hose does not contact rotating or hot parts and become damaged.
3. Turn off the engine and connect the cable.
4. Start the engine, attain the required rpm and hold it there.
5. Check the rpm with the ignition timing pistol.
6. Turn the rotary knob for the adjustment value anticlockwise as far as the stop and press the trigger on the ignition
timing pistol.
7. Using the stroboscope light, flash at the markings on the engine. At the same time turn the rotary knob until the two
markings coincide.
8. Read off the set value on the display and compare this with the manufacturer specifications.
9. 9If necessary, bring the ignition distributor into position by turning it.

6. Maintenance

Incorrect or defective replacement parts can lead to damage.
7. Checks
All tools are to be checked for damage.
