DC PROXIMITY SWITCH TESTER (MU2-DC)
Tests most 2, 3 or 4 wire DC proximity switches without removal from their installation.
1.
FEATURES
1.1.
Three connection terminals, positive, negative and switched output.
1.2.
A Battery compartment. The unit includes batteries, ready to use.
1.3.
An LED Display as indicated opposite.
2.
TESTING INSTRUCTIONS
2.1.
Disconnect the proximity switch from its supply.
2.2.
Connect the proximity switch to the MU2-DC. Note: the chart
depicts European colour coding, some switches may vary. If in
doubt, follow the makers wiring instructions.
2 wire DC switches are usually Brown / Blue, connect these between the + and the switch (middle) terminal on the test unit. PNP
or NPN is not relevant for 2 wire units.
2.3.
The green I/O LED will illuminate indicating that the proximity switch is correctly connected. If the Red battery LED illuminates,
your batteries are low, you can still test the proximity switch but should replace the batteries in due course.
2.4.
Present a suitable target to the sensing face of the proximity switch, ideally the target it is intended to see in this application. For
an inductive sensor this must be a metal target, capacitive, photoelectric and ultrasonic can detect non metal targets.
2.5.
If the switch is working correctly the MU2-DC will give audible and visible feedback. Presenting and removing the target will
indicate if the proximity switch is functioning correctly and indicate what type of output it has according to the chart below.

2.6.
If the proximity switch does not give good feedback when connected to the tester, try other suitable targets. If you still have no
success, the proximity switch has probably failed. Replacing it should provide a solution. If the proximity switch gives suitable
feedback with the actual targets used in the application yet when connected to your factory supply does not function correctly,
the problem may lie elsewhere.
3.
SAFE GUARDS
3.1.
DO NOT connect the test unit to any live supply.
3.2.
DO NOT change the battery when the test unit is connected to anything.
3.3.
DO NOT attempt to repair the test unit, there are no user serviceable parts inside.
4.
REPLACING THE TWO 9V PP3 BATTERIES
4.1.
Ensure the tester is not connected to anything.
4.2.
Use a small screwdriver to lever open the slot in the battery compartment.
4.3.
Disconnect the batteries from their connectors and replace them.
4.4.
Push the Battery cover back in place until it locates with a click.
Note: The MU2-DC will not test 2 or 3 wire AC switches.
