1. Prior to assembling the insert
9
Our surrounds are all made of non-combustible
materials. All our inserts/stoves are tested according
9
to the latest European requirements and also to the
9
Norwegian SINTEF standard, which includes particle
10
tests. Several European countries however have
10
individual rules for installation of inserts, stoves and
fireplaces.
10
10
The client is entirely responsible for the fulfilling of
10
these local rules concerning the installation in his
10
region/country. Nordpeis (Northstar) is not responsible
11
regarding correct installation. You should check local
11
regulations concerning: distance from firebox to
11
combustible/flammable materials, insulation materials/
11
requirements between fireplace surround and back wall,
11
size of floor plates in front of fireplace/stove if required,
11
fluepipe connection between firebox and chimney
11
and insulation requirements if fluepipe goes through
inflammable wall such as a wooden wall.
12
12
For your own safety, comply with the user
12
manual. All safety distances are minimum
12
distances. Installation of the insert must comply
12
with the rules and regulations of the country
12
where installed. Nordpeis AS is not responsible
for wrongly assembled inserts.

Chimney Draught
Compared with older models, the clean burning inserts
14
of today put significantly higher demands on the
chimney. Even the best insert will not work properly
if the chimney does not have the right dimensions or
is not in good working order. The draught is mainly
controlled by gas temperature, outside temperature, air
supply as well as the height and inner diameter of the
chimney. The diameter of the chimney should never
be less than that of the flue/chimney collar. At nominal
effect there should be a negative pressure of 14 to 25
Pascal.
The draught increases when:
The chimney becomes warmer than the outside air
The active length of the chimney is increased (over
the hearth)
Good air supply to the combustion
It can be difficult to obtain the right draught conditions
in case the chimney is too large in relationship to the
fireplace, as the chimney does not heat up well enough.
If possible, insert a smaller chimney pipe. Draught that
is too strong can also be controlled with a damper.
Floor under the fireplace
Ensure that the floor where the fireplace is placed can
withstand the load with regards to the total weight of the
fireplace. If unsure, contact the local building authorities
or a builder for review / approval. When mounting the
fireplace on a floating wooden floor, the floorboards
under the fireplace should be removed to avoid that the
