It was a brilliantly simple and crazy concept. Unleash
an enormous supernatural power upon the city
of New York, call upon the finest comedians in
Hollywood, throw in some groundbreaking special
effects and mix in a talented director to help give
us one of Hollywood's classic movies. These were
the building blocks of the 1984 smash hit movie
Ghostbusters, and the world is still talking about
it today.
Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Ray Stantz and Dr. Egon
Spengler are researchers on paranormal activity,
working at Columbia University, but their funding is
cut since their research seems to be going nowhere.
But when strange incidents involving spooks and
spectres begin to happen all over New York, the guys
hit upon a great idea - to form a paranormal detection
and elimination service called Ghostbusters.
To get around New York City they equip an old
ambulance with all their gear and gadgets. This
became the iconic Ecto-1! Their first assignment is
to remove the gluttonous apparition known as Slimer
from the fancy Sedgewick Hotel Ballroom. After
successfully completing the job - and destroying
most of the beautiful room in the process - their
reputation grows and their business really takes off.
So much so that they hire their fourth member to join
the Ghostbusters: Winston Zeddemore.
Their abilities are put to the ultimate test when the
evil being Zuul opens a portal and lets the supreme
evil Gozer into our world. Gozer takes the form of the
giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and attacks the
team. To defeat the giant and save New York they
cross the streams of their proton packs (something
Egon told them to never do) creating one incredibly
powerful energy beam that shoots it back into
the portal. The resulting explosion destroys both
Gozer and the portal and saves New York City from
imminent destruction... But leaves a large part of it
covered in melted marshmallow.
