Instruction Manual
Thank you for your choosing the Team Orion Expe-
rience 2 brushless set. This set features the latest
developments in R/C car brushless technology. For
maximum ease of use, no soldering is required and
the ESC is equipped with an automatic setup sys-
tem. You can use this brushless set with any type
of 1/10 scale on-road and off-road car.
Several parameters of the ESC can be adjusted
by using the optional ORI65020 DSB Vortex Dig-
ital Setting Box.
Please read the instructions carefully to ensure that
you receive maximum performance and reliability.
The set includes:
• 1 Vortex Experience 2 70A ESC with Tamiya type
connector (Carbon series) or Super Plug con-
nector and cooling fan (Titanium series)
• 1 Vortex Experience 2 Carbon or Titanium brush-
less motor
Important!
Use only batteries equipped with connectors which
are compatible with the ESC. Make sure that the
battery connectors are in good condition. Use only
quality high power batteries as a power source.
To prevent, motor or ESC overload, you might
have to use shorter gearing (smaller pinion) than
the stock gearing.
If you use NiMH/NiCd batteries with 7 or 8 cells or
LiFe or LiPo batteries with 3 cells, you must use
shorter gearing. Failure to do so can damage the
motor and/or ESC.
Failure to follow these rules can result in errone-
ous function and/or damage to the motor or ESC.
Motor installation
• Install the motor so that you can easily connect
it to the ESC.
• Secure the motor to the chassis using the screws
supplied with your car.
• Before installing the pinion, make sure that the
final gear ratio is suitable for your new Experi-
ence motor. You might need to change the pinion
and/or gear which is currently fitted to your car.
ESC Installation
• Install the ESC so that it has enough airflow for
cooling during operation and so that you can
easily connect it to the motor. Do not attempt to
modify the motor or ESC wires, doing so could
cause malfunctions. Secure the ESC to the car
chassis using double-sided tape.
• Find a convenient location for the switch and
secure it using double-sided tape.
• Connect the ESC receiver plug to the receiver,
usually channel/position 2 on the receiver
(refer to your transmitter/receiver instructions if
required).
• Connect the three motor wires from the ESC to
the motor.
Using the Experience 2 system
• Switch on your transmitter
• Connect the battery to the ESC
• Switch on the ESC
• The ESC emits a beep confirming that the auto-
matic setup is completed.
• You are ready to go!
Important!
Do not move the throttle before you hear the beep.

ESC Settings (only available with optional pro-
gramming box)
Several ESC parameters can be modified to fine
tune the ESC function. The factory settings can only
be modified using the optional Team Orion Vortex
Digital Setting Box #ORI65020.
Default factory settings
1. Battery type: NiMH/NiCd/LiFe
2. Drive power profile: linear
3. Brake: 40%
4. Drag Brake: 0%
5. Timing: 0 deg.
6. Neutral dead band: 2
7. Operation mode: Forward and Reverse
Adjustable parameters
1. Battery type
Adapt this parameter to the battery type used to
power your car. The LVC safety cut-off system, will
restrain the power output to the motor when the
battery is almost empty. To prevent eventual dam-
age stop running the car as soon as you feel a
drop in power. It is also possible to switch off the
system; in this case the ESC will run as long as
the battery is supplying enough power. Be aware
that over-discharging certain types of batteries can
damage them.
Available settings: LiPo auto-detect, NiMH/NiCd/
LiFe, no cut-off
2. Drive power profile
This parameter determines the power curve of the
acceleration. You can use a lower value for rough
or slippery surfaces and a higher value for smooth
and high-grip surfaces.
Available settings: Super smooth, smooth, linear,
power, X-power
3. Brake
This parameter adjusts the maximum amount of
braking which is applied when the brakes are used.
You can use a lower value for rough or slippery sur-
faces and a higher value for smooth and high-grip
surfaces. High value puts extra strain on the ESC
and motor, use cautiously.
Available settings: 0% to 80%
4. Drag brake
Use this parameter to adjust the amount of brake
to be applied when the throttle is returned to neu-
tral. This can improve the feeling while driving the
car and releasing the throttle. High value puts extra
strain on the ESC and motor, use cautiously.
Available settings: 0% to 30%
5. Timing
Timing is used to change the motor characteristics.
A lower timing value improves the efficiency and
gives a smoother throttle response. A higher timing
value increases performance, but at the expense of
efficiency and smoothness. High value puts extra
strain on the ESC and motor, use cautiously.
Available settings: 0° to 30°
6. Neutral dead-band
The neutral dead-band modifies the ESC's
response to the transmitters throttle input around
the neutral point. A higher value means that you
will have to move the throttle further from the neu-
tral point for the car to move forward, backward or
brake. A lower value will make the ESC more sen-
sitive to throttle inputs around the neutral point.
Available settings: 1 to 4
7. Operation mode
Use this parameter to adjust the ESC for forward
only or forward and reverse operation.
Available settings: forward/reverse or forward/
brake
8. Default settings
Loads the default factory settings.
Available settings: Yes or No
Troubleshooting
Car runs backwards
Reverse any two of the three wires connecting the
motor to the ESC.
Car goes faster in reverse than forward
Switch off the ESC, change the throttle reverse
switch on the transmitter and swich ESC back on.
The ESC does not beep when switched ON
• Transmitter is switched off
• Transmitter or receiver is defective
• Motor wires are improperly connected
• Battery is empty or defective
• ESC is defective
Car stutters
• Transmitter or receiver is defective
• Motor wires are improperly connected
• Battery is empty, defective or can't supply
enough power
• ESC is defective
Motor and/or ESC overheating:
• Use a smaller pinion (shorter gearing)
• Make sure the transmission runs freely
• Ambient temperature is too high
• Inappropriate ESC settings (brake, drag brake,
timing)
• Install the optional ESC cooling fan (ORI65021)
• Insufficient cooling
• Low quality or damaged battery
• ESC is defective
