Description
DO NOT USE CAT5/6/7 PATCH cables, only "
UTP cable for fixed installation with solid
inner core wires "
The SPATZ SUPERCAT is a versatile HDMI Transceiver that
allows the creation of a variety of solutions in the professional
boardroom or digital signage market.
The unit is designed to be cascaded to form either modular
switchers or distributed video systems.
The amount of cascades is determined a lot by signal quality,
transported video resolution and cable quality. For cascades of
more than 10 units we highly recommend to test the system
prior to install. Mainly to confirm that the cable is up to the task
and not limiting the system performance.
We recommend to use CAT6/7 cables but it will also work with
older CAT5 or CAT5e at reduced distance.
A minimum of 5m/15ft cable is required for the unit to work
properly.
The SUPERCAT is accepting HDMI or DVI signals from any
source including HDCP encrypted content. It has a return IR
channel to remote control a main source, e.g. cable box or
satellite receiver in distributed video systems. Any unit installed
in the chain will forward the received IR signals to the IR
outputs of previous units.
We supply the necessary IR TX and RX cables as an optional
accessory.
IR functions
The SUPERCAT has IR input and output. All IR signals that
have been received by a local IR-RX cable will be present at the
IR output of previous units. This will allow you to control sources
via IR through the CAT cabling without the need of a control
system. We support 38 Khz carrier frequency.
The unit itself can be controlled using the SPATZ remote. You
may switch (button 1,2) between HDMI or CAT input and control
the Audio output level (left, right arrow) from 0 to -127 db.
The "MODE" button engages MUTE to the analog audio output,
pressing again activates Audio Back.
SWITCHING between CAT and HDMI input
SUPERCAT may be switched using RS-232, IR or a simple
push button (SHWO ME) that is connected to the terminal block.
There is a signal LED that is lighting up when HDMI input is
selected. In remote switch configuration, the LED is signalizing
which PC source (SUPERCAT) is sending its signal over the
CAT bus to the display.
Audio outputs/Deembedding Audio
SUPERCAT has an analog and a SPDIF audio output for
deembedding the audio from HDMI. The level may be controlled
using the SPATZ remote LEFT and RIGHT buttons from 0db to
-127db or RS-232 command. The maximum output voltage is
Vss +/- 2,5V. This is typical CD Player level. The built in EDID
signalizes 2-channel PCM Audio. HDMI sources that check for
audio EDID will then embedd PCM 2-channel into the HDMI
signal so you may extract analog audio or digital spdif audio
2-ch with the SUPERCAT.

Manual or automatic cable compensation
The CAT receiver in the SUPERCAT is working in automatic
mode by default. However a manual adjustment can deliver
sometimes better results and should be tried if there is visible
sparkles in the picture. If you use the manual adjustment it is
necessary to make only small changes and be patient as the
displays are not instantly synching, some need several seconds
before they show a picture. So small steps and then waiting if
the display can log onto the signal.
NO picture
Since we are using Category cable for the interconnection of
very high bandwith signals, there is a physical limit. If that has
been reached, the unit is unable to lock onto the signal, and the
red sync LED will light up. Same will happen if the inputs signal
has too much jitter. If you experience this problem, then first
reduce image resolution. That will tell you if this is an
attenuation problem of the CAT input cable. If so, use a better
cable or decrease the length of cable. If that is not possible then
you can only reduce the source resolution for the CAT input
feed.
