Operating Instructions for Tacho Generators
Type KPG 503 and KPG 506

3. Connection
KPG 506 (terminals in the conduit box), c. w. -rotation, + at terminal A
KPG 503, looking on shaft (A-side), + at the right hand terminal, - at the left hand terminal. The terminals on the brush-holders become
accessible by taking off the steelsheet protecting band.
4. Earthing Conductor
Connect the earthing conductor to the earth-terminal. In case of flange-mounting (KPG 503) usually a connection to earh exists by the
flange-fixing-screws.
5. Transmission Elements
a) Tachos are precisely dynamically balanced with whole shaft key.
Use only fine-balanced pulleys, gears or coupling parts.
b) Take off anticorrosion-coating from the shaft end, apply grease and pull on the transmission part by means of the thread in the shaft
or press on whilst counterholding on the other shaft end.
c) If the tacho is driven via an inserted coupling, a precise alignment of the driving and driven shafts is necessary.
Unbalanced coupling parts, not aligned or couplings not free from play, gear drives may generate additional harmonics and disturb
the control circuit.
6. Maintenance
a) Carbon Brushes.
Life approx. 10.000 hrs; replace when brush length is shorter than 5 mm. Use only original spare brushes avalilable with
manufacturer.
b) Commutator.
A dirty or oxidized commutator is cleaned by means of polish-linen applied whilst rotation.
c) Ball Bearings.
Type 6202 2 RS P6 E on both sides.
The bearings cannot be regreased.
Tachos with worn-out bearings have to be returned to the manufacturer for overhauling.
d) If it is necessary to change the bearings on the spot immediately, please note:
Lift brushes from commutator, take off both endshields.
Unscrew leads from brush-holders if necessary.
The armature must never be removed from the field.
Otherwise the magnetisation of the permanent magnets decreases resulting in a loss of voltage of 40% after reassembly.
e) If the armature has to be taken out of the housing, short-circuit the permanent magnet in order to avoid a loss of voltage.
Our special instructions SK 957 (available on request) show the procedure.
7. Safety Inatructions
Connection by trained personal only.
Keep terminal box cover always closed during operation (high contact voltage).
