Motor-Plane/ Boat-Mode (Mode 3)

All required properties for electric powered motor
airplanes and boats are preadjusted in this mode.

Heli-Mode (Mode 4)

In Heli-Mode the KOBY operates with active RPM
control. This means, that the motor RPM will be
kept constant. Changes in load and falling battery
voltage will be compensated, as long as motor and
battery capacity allow. It is not necessary to use a
Tx mixer to stabilize RPM. RPM control works only,
if the ESC is installed in the helicopter. Operation
under no load may result in a jerking ESC.
Plug the KOBY receiver cable into a free slot of the
Rx. E.g. by using a slider the Rx can be operated
independently from the Tx. use the slider to
program the KOBY to Heli-Mode.
The KOBY RPM control is adjusted automatically to
the application during the first start of the motor
after connecting the battery. It is recommended to
set 0° pitch to ensure relatively constant RPM
during each flight. To start the motor push the slider
towards full throttle. The KOBY will smoothly
increase the motor RPM in a few seconds. As soon
as the designated RPM is reached the KOBY
switches over to close loop speed. The closer the
slider position is to full throttle, the higher is the
designated motor RPM. KONTRONIK recommends
setting minimum RPM at 80% of full PRM.

With the slider back in motor-off position the

motor will be switched off. Be aware not to
do so in flight, otherwise it would take some
seconds to start the motor again.
There is a check whether battery, motor, gear ratio
and helicopter are fitting together: after adjusting
the KOBY the lowest selectable RPM should not be
sufficient to lift the helicopter.

! If this is possible, the KOBY is operating out
of its limit and can be destroyed! Use a
higher gear ratio or a motor with less RPM
and more torque.

BEC Current (Mode 10)

When delivered the KOBY has a BEC voltage of 5.6 V.
By mode 10 the voltage can be adjusted between 5 - 8 V
in steps of 0.2 V.
Programming mode 10 :
1. Step 1 to 7 as in all other modes
8. After 10 single beeps, mode 10 is r ea ch e d ; move
the throttle stick to the full throttle po si t i o n ( 100 %) .
The ESC confirms first the throttle position with an
ascending triad of sounds, and then the mode with
10 single beep s (throttle stick remains at the full
throttle position).
9. Beginning at 5 V, the BEC voltage is raised by 0.2 V
with each beep (the first beep occurs at 5.2 V).
When the desired voltage is reached,
throttle stick to the motor off po sition ( 0 %). The
KOBY confirms programming with a risin g triad of
sounds and the BEC voltage in a corresponding
numbers of beeps.
When reaching the maximum voltage of 8 V there is a
double beep. To confirm a setting of 8 V
throttle stick to the motor off position (0 %) within 2 s.
Otherwise no BEC voltage is stored

Update

KOBY ESCs can be updated over the internet.
Prerequisites for performing an update:

KOBY ESC

KONTRONIK ProgUNIT

Windows TM PC

Internet connection

Suitable battery
1. Connect your ProgUNIT to a KOBY ESC. Please
review ProgUNIT manual how to connect an ESC to
a ProgUNIT.
2. Connect the ProgUNIT to a Windows
connect to the internet.
3. Connect the KOBY to a suitable battery and switch
on ProgUNIT
4. Download the latest KOBY software version from
our web site (www.kontronik.com) and save the file
on your PC.
5. After connecting the ProgUNIT to the KOBY ESC
the installed software version of the KOBY is
displayed on the ProgUNIT or PC.
6. Execute the update file on your PC by double
clicking.
7. As soon as the PC identified the ProgUNIT and the
ProgUNIT identified the KOBY select the Update
button on your screen.
