Operating instructions
Pressure Regulators PRE/PRC
General information and technical data:
PRE/PRC are controlling Evaporator Pressure- or
Crankcase Pressure depending on the specific setting of
the Regulator.
•
Max. Operating Pressure Ps: 25 bar
•
Max. Test Pressure: 30 bar
•
Operating Temperature Range Ts: –30°C to 80°C
•
Max. body temperature 130°C
•
Compatibility: CFC, HCFC, HFC, Mineral- and Ester
Lubricants
!
Safety instructions:
•
Read installation instructions thoroughly. Failure to
comply can result in device failure, system damage
or personal injury.
•
It is intended for use by persons having the
appropriate knowledge and skill. Before attempting
to install the regulator make sure pressure in system
is brought to and remains at atmospheric pressure.
•
Do not release any refrigerant into the atmosphere.
•
Do not use any other fluid media without prior
approval of Alco Controls. Use of fluid not listed
could result in chemical deterioration of internal
material.
•
In a severely contaminated system, avoid breathing
acid vapours and avoid contact with skin from
contaminated refrigerant / lubricants. Failure to do
so could result in skin injury.
•
PRC/PRE valves are completely hermetic and cannot
be dissassembled for inspection or cleaning.
•
WARNING:
Install
Schraeder-Valve
pressurizing the system. Failure to install valve can
result in loss of refrigerant or personal injury.
•
PRC/PRE are not released for use with flammable

refrigerants such as hydrocarbon refrigerants and
ammonia.
Setting:
Factory setting (FS) can be changed by the according
spindle turns (see Fig. 1) mentioned in the Table below.
Follow the procedure for setting before any installation.
After the system is running setting must be cross-checked
with a gauge.

Mounting location:
•
PRE should be installed as close as possible at the
Evaporator outlet but downstream of the Expansion
Valves bulb/external equalizer. PRC should be located
as close as possible to the Compressor but upstream of
any vibration eliminator that might be present (Fig. 4 and
5).
•
Allow sufficient clearance above the valve for adjustment
of pressure.
Installation:
•
Before brazing remove top cap and brass cap of the
before
7/16" Schraeder-Valve connection. Be sure that
Schraeder-Valve is removed from the Regulator (see
Fig. 2).
•
Direction of flow must match arrow on body.

•
Use an inert gas such as nitrogen to pass through the
lines to prevent copper oxide formation.
•
The
use
of
appropriate
recommended. (soft solder is not allowed). During
brazing process the cooling of the valve-body is
necessary to avoid any internal damage. Do not exceed
max. body temperature of 130°C.
•
Direct flame away from valve body. (Fig. 3)
•
Never use oxygen or flammable gases.
•
Internal parts must be protected from foreign material
and moisture. ALCO filter-drier use in liquid line and
2
ALCO filter use in suction line is recommended.
Testing:
•
After cool down period install Schraeder-Valve using

•
After completion of installation, a pressure test must be
carried out as follows:
- According to EN378 for systems which must comply with
European pressure equipment directive 2014/68/EU
- To maximum working pressure of system for other
applications
Warning:
1.
Failure to do so could result in loss of refrigerant and
person injury.
2.
The pressure test must be conducted by skilled
persons with due respect regarding the danger related
to pressure.
