6.6 Information about SMS, FAX and E-MAIL
A mobile phone can send an SMS to an e-mail address or a FAX. A mobile phone can also receive an e-
mail as SMS. Your provider needs to activate this service. To do so, send an SMS with the text "activate
for e-mail" to the respective gateway number of the provider. Once activated, you receive an e-mail
address from your net operator on which the mobile phone can be reached.
Sending SMS from the mobile phone to an e-mail
address
In order to send a message to an e-mail address, you have to write an SMS which first states the e-mail
address followed by a blank and then the text. You have to send this SMS to the provider's gateway
number.
e.g. you send the SMS:
max.mustermann@conrad.de This is the message.
with T-Mobile to the phone number 8000.
Sending SMS from the mobile phone to a fax
Write a normal SMS to send messages to a Fax. When entering the number, you only have to enter the
recipient number (prefix) before the actual fax number.
e.g. You want to send a Fax to 0180/5312110; you write a normal SMS and send this to
155101805312110 with "E-Plus".
With this module, the prefix number for sending from a fax only has to be entered on the page "SIM" and
does not have to be entered separately with each fax number. This is automatically set by the module.
Sending an e-mail from a PC to a mobile phone
After activation, the mobile phone receives an own e-mail address from the provider in the shape "phone
number@mailserver". The e-mail must be sent to this address.
e.g. you send an e-mail to the vodafone D2 address 0172xxxxxxx@vodafone-sms.de
Caution:
The mobile phone owner pays the transmission costs for sending and receiving the e-mails at
the price of an SMS. A fax cost slightly more, depending on the provider.
Received text which consist of more than 160 characters are either shortened or distributed to
several SMS.
