6. Making a Current Measurement

Warning!
Under no circumstances exceed the max. permissible input
values (1000 A AC rms max.). The voltage must never exceed 600
V AC rms (rms=actual)! Do not touch any circuits or parts of cir-
cuits that may carry voltages in excess of 25 V AC rms or 35 V DC
- risk of fatal injury!
To measure AC currents up to 1000 A max., proceed as follows:
1. Connect the current clamp as described in Section 4.2 to an AC
voltmeter.
2. Switch on the connected multimeter.
3. Open the current clamp by operating the clamp opening lever.
Only place the jaws around one insulated conductor in a
single-phase system or several insulated conductors of a multi-
phase system.
Warning!
Just below the lever there is a hand guard consisting of a plastic
rim. When making a measurement or placing the jaws around
the conductor or busbars, never grip the current clamp beyond
this hand guard - RISK OF FATAL INJURY!
4. Place the jaws around the live conductor by releasing the open-
ing lever. The contact surfaces of the clamp must be securely
closed and it must be possible to move the conductor(s) easily
inside the jaws. When taking a readout, make sure that the
conductor is centrally positioned in the jaws.

Warning!
Do not measure any current in circuits where voltages in excess
of 600 V DC or AC rms are likely to occur because this poses risk
of life-threatening injury. Under no circumstances measure any
current in excess of 1000 A rms.

7. Maintenance and Calibration

The current clamp requires no maintenance apart from occasion-
ally cleaning the housing and the connecting leads (using a
clean, lint-free, antistatic cleaning cloth). Any circuit modifica-
tion/alteration will void the guarantee.
Warning!
When cleaning, never use any cleaning materials containing car-
bon or any petroleum spirit or alcohol-based materials or simi-
lar. These will corrode the surface of the current clamp/connect-
ing leads. The vapours they create are also harmful and explo-
sive. Do not use any sharp-edged tools, screwdrivers or wire
brushes or similar for cleaning purposes.
