Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to obser-
ve these safety instructions!
We shall not be held liable for any consequential damage or loss!
Nor do we assume liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by improper use or failure to observe the safety instructions. The warranty
will be void in such cases.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible
because of safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle the product!
• The design of the AC adaptor complies with safety class II. As a source of volt-
age, only a correct mains socket (230V/50Hz) of the mains supply system should
be used.
• This product is not a toy, and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children
cannot assess the dangers arising from incorrect use of electrical devices. Be
especially careful if children are around.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must be protected from damp and
wet, as there is a risk of a fatal electric shock! Never touch the product with wet
hands.
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures (< 0°C or > +40°C), direct
bright sunlight, strong vibrations, high humidity or strong mechanical stress.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become danger-
ous playing material for children.
• Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room into
a warm one. Condensation water thatforms might destroy the device. Moreover,
there is danger of electric shock involved.
Wait until the product is at room temperature and the condensation has evapo-
rated. This may take several hours.
Only then connect the AC adaptor with the power supply and put the product into
operation.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or acciden-
tal drops, even from a low height.
Notes on batteries/rechargeable batteries

• Keep (rechargeable) batteries away from children; they are not toys.
• Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; they could be swallowed by chil-

dren or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
°
• Leaking or damaged (rechargeable) batteries can cause burns if they come into contact with
the skin. For this reason you should use suitable protectivegloves.
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into a fire.
There is a risk of explosion!
• Conventional batteries must not be recharged. Danger of explosion! Only charge rechargeable
batteries that are intended for this purpose; use a suitable battery charger.
• Please observe the correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-) when inserting rechargeable batteries.
• Do not mix batteries or rechargeable batteries with different levels of charge.
• Never mix batteries with rechargeable batteries! Use either batteries or rechargeable batteries.
• Instead of batteries, accumulators can be utilised to operate the remote control. However, due
to the lower voltage (rechargeable batteries = 1.2 V, batteries = 1.5 V) and the lower capacity
of rechargeable batteries, the operating time of the IR remote control is reduced.
Installation of a Hard Disk
• Open the housing cover at the side (the cover is possibly fastened by a screw when being
delivered).
• Unlock the hard disk insertion (press the area imprinted with „Push") and pull it out.
• Insert an 8.9cm/3.5" SATA hard disk into the fixture and fasten it in place with the screws.
Ensure that the screws do not extend too far and damage the hard disk's electronic compo-
nents.
• Replace the insertion back into the media recorder (observe correct alignment), and then con-
nect the SATA-/power cable to the hard disk.
• Replace the housing cover and close it again with a screw.
Inserting Battery into the IR Remote Control, Change of Battery
Open the battery compartment of the IR remote control and insert two batteries (AAA/Micro) with
the correct polarity (pay attention to plus /+ and minus/-). Replace the lid of the battery com-
partment.
It is necessary to change the battery if the IR range reduces significantly or the media recorder
no longer reacts to the IR remote control at all.
Commissioning, Formatting of the hard disk
• Connect the media recorder to your reproducing device (TV set, monitor); use an appropriate
connection cable. Then select the correct input port at the TV set or the monitor.
• Connect the media recorder to the mains, using the plug-in power adapter supplied.
• Turn on the media recorder. If there is no picture visible on the connected reproducing device,
check your connection for the correct input port.
• Upon initial operation, the integrated hard disk must be partitioned and formatted first, also of
course the loading of corresponding multimedia files via USB2.0 is required.
Connection to the Computer
• Connect the media recorder via the provided USB cable to a USB2.0 port on your computer.
• Windows recognises the new hardware and installs the drivers automatically.
• Then the hard disk in the media recorder can be used like a conventional removablestorage
device.
Partitioning/formatting should be done using the media recorder integrated format-
ting function, not a PC.
When formatting via the media recorder it can be decided which amount of the total
hard disk memory is to be used for time shift operation (approx. 4GBytes are nec-
essary per hour).
When formatting, all present data on the hard disk are going to be deleted! You
should perform a data back-up first.
For Windows ME/XP/Vista no driver is required, as this is already part of the oper-
ating system.
While the media recorder is connected to a computer via USB2.0, all other functions
are switched off. The media recorder then operates like a common hard disk drive
enclosure.
