A) Attach female quick coupler to 1/4" or 5/16" male on the system. Make sure shut off valve is open.
B) Push retaining rod forward and engage head and shoulder of Schrader stem. Turn counter-clockwise until Schrader is
disengaged.

C) Pull retaining rod back all the way. Pressure in the system will help push the Schrader back.
D) Turn ball valve handle 90° to close off passageway.

E) Unscrew retaining nut and remove rod/nut assembly and Schrader core.
Core Replacing
• Faster Charging
F) Put new core on end of removing rod and insert both back and valve body. Tighten retaining nut.
G) Turn ball valve handle 90° and push retaining rod forward.
• Remove and
H) With clockwise motion, tighten Schrader back into 1/4² male fitting.
I) Disconnect from system.
Replace Schrader
Cores
For Vacuum or Charge
J) Attach charging or vacuum hose.
K) Open ball valve and charge or pull vacuum without restrictions. (On model 18975 and 18985, there is an extra 1/4²
Schrader port. Attach a micron vacuum gauge here for system¹s internal vacuum reading. When charging a system or
checking system pressure, a manifold set can be attached to this port.
L) After servicing, close ball valve. Remove hose and reinstall Schrader core into system (F-H).
M) Disconnect from system.
Rethreading Schrader Threads
N) Insert 18978 or 18988 tool into valve tool and tighten
retaining nut.
O) Open shut-off valve.
P) Push 18978 or 18988 rod forward and use clockwise
motion to chase internal threads.
Q) Unscrew rod and pull it back.
R) Close shut-off valve and remove 18978

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Removing Broken Schrader
S) Remove rod assembly and insert 18979 or 18989.
Make sure shut-off valve is open.
T) Attach to 1/4" male fitting.
U) Turn counterclockwise, engage Schrader.
V) Continue to push on broken/frozen core and turn until
the core releases. Pull rod back.
W) Turn shut-off handle 90° to close.

X) Unscrew retaining nut, remove 18979/89 tool.
