Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einsatz in PC-kompatiblen Notebooks mit Cardbus-kompati-
blen PCMCIA-Einschub vorgesehen und stellt dort zusätzliche Schnittstellen
(USB2.0) zur Verfügung.

Aus Sicherheits- und Zulassungsgründen (CE) ist das eigenmächtige Umbauen
und/oder Verändern des Produkts nicht gestattet.
Gehen Sie vorsichtig mit dem Produkt um, durch Stöße, Schläge oder dem Fall aus
bereits geringer Höhe wird es beschädigt.
Anschluss
• Starten Sie Ihr Betriebssystem und warten Sie, bis es vollständig geladen ist (z.B.
Windows ME oder XP).
• Stecken Sie die PCMCIA-Karte korrekt in den PCMCIA-Port des Notebooks. Lesen
Sie ggf. die Bedienungsanleitung zu Ihrem Notebook, wie man PCMCIA-Karten
korrekt einsetzt.
Hat Ihr Notebook mehrere PCMCIA-Ports, so ist es normalerweise unerheblich,
welchen der PCMCIA-Ports Sie verwenden.
• Wird die PCMCIA-Karte trotz korrektem Einstecken in den PCMCIA-Port nicht
erkannt, so hat Ihr Notebook vermutlich keinen Cardbus-PCMCIA-Port (tritt oft bei
älteren Notebooks mit weniger als 400MHz auf), sondern nur einen PC-Card-
PCMCIA-Port. Die PCMCIA-Karte lässt sich dann leider nicht betreiben! Verwenden
Sie evtl. testweise ein anderes Notebook.
Treiber-Installation
Windows erkennt die PCMCIA-Karte automatisch. Legen Sie den mitgelieferten
Datenträger in das entsprechende Laufwerk ein und folgen Sie allen Anweisungen
von Windows. Danach ist ein Neustart erforderlich.
Tipps & Hinweise
• Falls USB-Geräte mit höherer Stromaufnahme angeschlossen werden sollen (z.B.
eine externe 2.5"-Festplatte ohne eigenes Netzteil), so muss an der
Niederspannungsbuchse der PCMCIA-Karte ein externes Netzteil (nicht im
Lieferumfang) angeschlossen werden.
Dieses muss eine Ausgangsspannung von +5V= liefern und einen Strom von min-
destens 2A. Der Mittelkontakt muss "Plus" (+) führen, der Außenkontakt "Minus"
(-).
• Wird die PCMCIA-Karte z.B. unterwegs im Notebook belassen, obwohl sie nicht
benutzt wird, so könnte sich durch die Stromaufnahme der PCMCIA-Karte die
Akku-Laufzeit des Notebooks verringern.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der USB2.0-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen.
• USB-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb (bei anderen
Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen führen, z.B. wenn Sie eine PS/2-

Maus während dem Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).

Finden jedoch Datenübertragungen auf dem USB-Port statt, z.B. wenn eine
Festplatte Daten an den PC liefert, und Sie ziehen den USB-Stecker heraus, könn-
te der PC abstürzen und Daten beschädigt werden.
• Die USB2.0-Ports unterstützen selbstverständlich auch USB1.1. Deshalb können
hier auch herkömmliche "langsame" USB-Geräte angesteckt werden. Die Über-
tragungsgeschwindigkeit ändert sich dabei aber nicht.
• Wollen Sie USB2.0-Geräte über einen USB-Hub betreiben, so ist ein USB2.0-Hub
erforderlich. Mit einem herkömmlichen USB1.1-Hub funktioniert der High-Speed-
Betrieb von USB2.0 nicht, die Geräte arbeiten im "normalen" USB1.1-Modus.
• Für einwandfreien USB2.0-Betrieb sind normalerweise keine speziellen "USB2.0-
Kabel" erforderlich. Herkömmliche "normale" USB-Kabel reichen vollig aus, aller-
dings müssen diese abgeschirmt sein.
Sollten Sie beim Betrieb von USB2.0-Geräten Übertragungsprobleme feststellen,
so können Sie versuchsweise ein USB-Kabel verwenden, das auf USB2.0-Betrieb
getestet worden ist ("USB2.0-certified").
• Im abgesicherten Modus von Windows ist kein USB-Betrieb möglich.
• In älteren Notebooks funktioniert die PCMCIA-Karte möglicherweise nicht, sie wird
beim Einstecken von Windows nicht erkannt, da zum Betrieb ein PCMCIA-Port mit
Cardbus-Standard erforderlich ist. Die Hardware-Erkennung von Windows findet
kein neues Gerät.
• Bei Verwendung einer externen USB-Festplatte ist ein Partitionieren/Formatieren
unter Windows 9x normalerweise mit den MS-DOS-Kommandos FDISK und FOR-
MAT möglich. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu der externen Festplatte.
Bei Windows XP ist die Systemverwaltung (Datenträger-Verwaltung) zu verwenden.

Intended Use
This product is intended for installation in a PC-compatible notebook with a card-
bus-compatible PCMCI slot and there it makes additional interfaces (USB 2.0) avai-
lable.

Safety instructions
The guarantee will lapse if damage is incurred as a result of non-
compliance with the operating instructions! We shall not be held lia-
ble for any consequential damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal inju-
ry caused by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety
instructions. In such cases the guarantee will lapse.
For safety and licensing (CE) reasons, unauthorised conversion and/or modifications
to the product are not permitted.
Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows or by being
dropped even from a low height.
Connection
• Start your operating system and wait until it has booted completely (e.g. Windows
ME or XP).
• Insert the PCMCIA card correctly into the PCMCIA port of the notebook. If neces-
sary, read the operating instructions for your notebook with respect to how you
can insert PCMCIA cards correctly.
If your notebook has several PCMCIA ports, it is normally of no consequence which
of the PCMCIA ports you use.
• If, in spite of correct insertion in the PCMCIA port, the PCMCIA card is not recog-
nised, your notebook probably has no card-bus PCMCIA port (occurs often with
older notebooks with less than 400MHz), but only a PC-card PCMCIA port. The
PCMCIA card can unfortunately not be operated! You could possibly use another
notebook to test it.
Installation of drivers
Windows recognises the PCMCIA card automatically. Insert the supplied data carrier
into the appropriate drive and follow all the Windows instructions. Windows must
then be restarted.
Tips and information
• If USB devices with a higher current consumption are to be connected (e.g. an
external 2.5" hard disk without if own power unit), an external power unit has to
be connected to the low-voltage jack of the PCMCIA card (not in the scope of deli-
very).
This has to supply an output voltage of +5V= and current of at least 2A. The cen-
tral contact must bear "+" ("plus"), the external contact "-" (minus).
• If the PCMIIA card is, for example, left in the notebook when you are on the road,
although it is not being used, power consumption by the PCMCIA card could redu-
ce the accumulator service life of your notebook.
• It is of no consequence which of the USB2.0/1394 ports you use first.
• USB devices allow you to plug in or unplug devices during operation (with other
interfaces, this can cause damage, e.g. if you plug in or unplug a PS/2 mouse
when the PC is in operation).

However, if you unplug the USB plug when data transfer is taking place on the
USB/1394 port, e.g. if an external drive is sending data to the PC, Windows could

crash with data being damaged!
• The USB2.0 ports naturally also support USB1.1. Therefore conventional "slow"
USB devices can also be plugged in here. However, the transmission speed is not
altered.
• If you want to operate the USB2.0 devices using a USB hub, a USB2.0 hub is requi-
red. The high-speed operation of a USB2.0 does not function with a conventional
USB1.1 hub. The devices operate in "normal" USB1.1 mode.
• For faultless USB2.0 operation there are normally no special "USB2.0 cables"
necessary. Conventional "normal" USB cables are perfectly adequate but they
have to be shielded.
If transmission problems occur during operation of USB2.0 devices, a USB cable
which has been tested for USB2.0 operation ("USB2.0-certified") can be used for
testing purposes.
• USB operation is not possible in Windows safe mode.
• It is possible that the PCMCIA card does not function in older notebooks. It is not
recognised by Windows when plugged in as, for operation, a PCMCIA port with
card-bus standard is necessary. The Windows hardware recognition feature will
not find a new device.
• With an external USB/1394 hard disk, formatting/partitioning is normally possible
under 9x/ME using the MS-DOS commands FDISK and FORMAT. Observe the
instructions for the external hard disk.
With Windows XP, the system management (data carrier management) is to be
used.
