Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety information.
If you do not follow the safety instructions and information on proper handling in this
manual, we assume no liability for any resulting personal injury or damage to property.
Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
a) Persons / Product
• Do not electrically attach this light chain to another light chain.
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may become dangerous
playing material for children.
• Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled in them. This poses
a risk of injury.
• Attention, LED light:
- Do not look directly into the LED light!
- Do not look into the beam directly or with optical instruments!
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, strong jolts, flammable gases, vapours and
solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from
any accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage
the product.
b) Rechargeable batteries
• Correct polarity must be observed while inserting the rechargeable battery.
• The rechargeable battery should be removed from the device if it is not used for a long period
of time to avoid damage through leaking. Leaking or damaged rechargeable batteries might
cause acid burns when in contact with skin, therefore use suitable protective gloves to handle
corrupted rechargeable batteries.
• Rechargeable batteries must be kept out of reach of children. Do not leave rechargeable
batteries lying around, as there is risk, that children or pets swallow them.
• Rechargeable batteries must not be dismantled, short-circuited or thrown into fire. There is a
danger of fire and explosion!
• Only use a rechargeable battery of suitable size and same type (see "Technical data").
• Only insert a rechargeable battery into the product. Never use a non-rechargeable battery.
Otherwise there is a risk of fire and explosion!

Version 08/13
• Ground spike
• Operating instructions
Operation
Do not set up or operate the product under water.
Make sure that the cables hang loosely and are not stretched too tightly. Failure to heed
this warning may cause the cables to tear.
Do not use the product until unpacked. Lay the product out entirely before connecting
it to the power supply.
Do not hang any objects from the product and do not cover the product.
The LEDs are neither dimmable nor replaceable.
• Place the ground spike inside the standpipe. Attach the standpipe including the ground spike to the bracket
on the rear of the solar module.
• Choose a suitable location with soft earth/surface. Rocky surfaces will damage the ground spike. Carefully
stick the solar module including the ground spike into the soil/surface as far as it goes.
• Install the solar module at a location with good lighting conditions in order for the solar cells to charge
the battery during daytime. Make sure the solar cell is not covered or shaded, e.g. by trees or buildings.
• Select a suitable mounting location (e.g. tree or bush) and place the product onto the branches of the tree
or bush. Use plastic cable ties to fasten the light chain if necessary.
• When using the product for the first time, it will take about 2 days of sunlight to fully charge the battery.
• Set the on/off switch to ON position to switch on the device. If ambient lighting conditions are poor, the
LEDs of the light chain will then turn on automatically. When ambient lighting conditions are normal or sun
shines accordingly, the LEDs will turn off again.
• Set the on/off switch to OFF position to switch off the solar light chain.
Regardless of the switch position, the rechargeable battery will always be charged when the
sunlight falls directly onto the solar cell, i.e., charging takes place even when the product is
switched off.
• Turn off the product using the on/off switch and remove the rechargeable battery when not using the device
for a longer period of time.
Replacing the rechargeable battery
• Replace the rechargeable battery only if the light duration at night is very short despite sufficient battery
charge.
• Make sure the on/off switch is at OFF position before opening the battery compartment.
• Open the battery compartment cover by loosening the two screws with a small Phillips screwdriver.
• Insert a new rechargeable battery of suitable size and same type (see "Technical data") into the battery
compartment, thereby observing the correct polarity ("+" = positive; "–" = negative).
• Reinstall the battery compartment cover and tighten the screws.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance except for potential battery replacement or occasional
cleaning. Turn off the product and let the LEDs cool down sufficiently before cleaning.
To clean, use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Allow the
product to dry completely before continued use.

At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory regulations.
Remove the inserted rechargeable battery and dispose of separately from the product.
