Intended Use

- Measuring and displaying electric parameters in the range of excess voltage category CAT III (up to
max. 600V against earth potential, pursuant to EN 61010-1) and all lower categories.
- Measurement of direct and alternating voltage up to a maximum of 600V
- Measurement of direct and alternating current up to a maximum of 10 A
- Frequency measurement to 10 MHz (only VC270 and VC290)
- Capacity measurement to 100 µF (only VC270 and VC290)
- Measurement of Resistance to 40 MΩ (VC250 max. 20 MΩ)
- Battery Test for 1.5 and 9V Batteries (only VC250)
- Continuity check (< 10 Ω acoustic)
- Diode Test
The measurement functions are selected using the dial switch. With the VC250 the selection of the
measurement range is made manually, for the VC270 and VC290 the automatic measurement range
selection is active in all measurement ranges (except current measurement ranges).
The two current measuring inputs are secured against overload. The voltage in the measuring circuit
may not exceed 600 V. The two current measuring inputs are secured with ceramic high performance
fuses. The VC270 has a self-resetting PTC fuse in the mA/µA measurement range.
A low-impedance function (Low-Imp) in the VC250 and VC270 allows measurement with reduced
internal resistance. This suppresses phantom charges which can occur in high Ohm measurements.
Measurement with reduced impedance is only allowed in measurement circuits up to max. 250 V and
for a max. of 3 seconds.
VC250 and VC270 are operated with one standard 9v block battery. The device may only be operat-
ed with the specified batteries. Power for the VC290 is provided by an inbuilt high-capacity capacitor.
Charging is carried out via a mains power source 230 V/AC. During measurements, if there is sufficient
light supplied (halogen/daylight or sunlight), the capacitor is buffered by an inbuilt solar cell and the
operation time per charge is increased.
The measuring instrument must not be operated when it is open, i.e. with an open battery compart-
ment or when the battery compartment cover is missing. Measuring in damp rooms or under
unfavourable ambient conditions is not admissible. Adverse ambient conditions include:
- Excessive dampness or humidity,
- Dust or combustible gases, vapours or solvents,
- Electrical storms or stormy conditions resulting in strong electrostatic fields, etc.
For safety reasons, when measuring only use measuring cables or accessories which are adjusted to
the specifications of the multimeter.
Any use other than that described above will damage the product and may involve other risks, such as
short-circuit, fire, electric shock. Do not change or modify any part of the product.
Read the operating instructions carefully and retain them for later reference.
