d. Abrasive devices may only be used for the recommended applications. For
example: never carry out grinding work with the side of a cutting disk. Cutting
disks are intended for the removal of material with the edge of the disk. These
abrasive devices can break if force is exerted on them from the side.
e. Always use undamaged clamping flanges of the correct size and shape for the
grinding disk you have selected. An appropriate flange supports the grinding disk
and thus reduces the risk of the grinding disk breaking. Flanges for cutting disks can
differ from flanges for other grinding disks.
f.
Do not use any wornout grinding disks of larger power tools. Grinding disks
for larger power tools are not designed for the higher rotational speeds of smaller
power tools and can break.
Additional special safety directions for the process of cutting off by grinding:
a. Do not allow the cutting disk to lock up or apply too much pressure to it. Do
not perform any excessively deep cuts.
Overloading the cutting disk increases the strain on it and its susceptibility to war-
ping or locking, and thus the possibility of recoil or breakage of an abrasive agent.
b. Avoid the area in front of and behind the rotating cutting disk.
If you move the cutting disk in the workpiece away from you, the power tool with the
rotating disk can be catapulted directly towards you in the event of recoil.
c. If the cutting disk gets jammed or you interrupt the work, switch off the tool
and hold it steadily until the disk comes to a standstill. Never try to pull the
cutting disk out of the cut section if it is still running because this could lead to
recoil.
Determine and rectify the cause of the jamming.
d. Do not switch the power tool on again whilst it is still in the workpiece. Let
the cutting disc reach its full rotational speed first before carefully continuing
with the cut. Otherwise, the disc may get caught, jump out of the workpiece or
cause recoil.
e. Prop up panels or large workpieces to reduce the risk of recoil when a cutting
disk jams.
Large workpieces can bend under their own weight. The workpiece must be suppor-
ted on both sides of the disk, i.e., both close to the centre cut and also at the edge.
f.
Be especially careful when carrying out "pocket cuts" in existing walls or other
areas that you cannot look into.
The cutting disk penetrating into the wall can cause recoil when cutting into gas or
water pipelines, electrical lines or other objects.
Special safety directions for the sanding process:
a. Do not use oversized abrasive disks, but instead follow the manufacturer's
instructions concerning the abrasive disk size.
Abrasive disks which have a circumference in excess of the grinding pad can cause
injuries or lead to the locking or tearing of the abrasive disks or to recoil.
