Installation instructions U3
U3
Connection to ovoid concrete pipe (DIN EN 1916) and to ovoid polymer concrete pipe (DIN EN
®
14636-1 and ISO 18672-1)
Check packaging content for completeness and any damage.
Scope of delivery (1):
• U3
junction
®
• 1-C sealant with tip and plug connector
• Lubricant 50 g (do not use lubricant supplied by the customer)
• Brush
• Gloves
• Cleaning rags
• Installation instructions
Tools required for proper assembly but not included in the delivery contents (2):
• Cartridge gun with reduction ratio (25:1)
• Threaded ring spanner
Not illustrated:
• Spirit level, 1 m
• Measuring tape
• Concrete core drill, preferably horizontal drilling console
• Drill bit 212 mm (± 1 mm) of sufficient length (min. 450 mm depending on construction site conditions)
Special emphasis should be placed on proper core drilling.
The drill bit must:
• Have the right diameter (212 mm ± 1 mm)
• Be of sufficient length (min. 450 mm)
• Have sufficiently sharp teeth
• Have all of its teeth
• Be true-running
If one of these points is not given, a new drill bit has to be procured or the used drill bit has to be reworked.
Using the horizontal drilling console for accurate, proper core drilling is recommended. This allows the drill to be precisely aligned in height and
inclination.
The horizontal drilling console has appropriate fastening bores for the Gölz KB300 and KB350 sewer system construction drills.
Choosing to use other types of drills with the horizontal drilling console is the responsibility of the customer. The applicable statutory safety
regulations must be followed.
Check the nominal diameter of the main sewer pipe (6). An inspection through the nearest shaft may be required in older installations if no
measurements are on hand. (Observe safety regulations!)
Read these installation instructions carefully and take the dimension for the drilling from the dimension table "CONNECTION DIMENSIONS

Use a spirit level and measuring tape (min. 1 m) to first mark the top of the core hole on the pipe (FIGURE 3).
Suitable drills with horizontal drilling console for exact height and inclination adjustment
With dual support on the top and bottom of the pipe, DIN EN 1916 ovoid pipes made of high-grade concrete can also be drilled exactly (7).
Drilling the main sewer pipe before installation:
Support the pipe with wooden blocks on a solid, flat surface. The horizontal drilling console is pulled against the pipe with a lashing strap and
firmly secured. The orientation and height of the drill should be lined up exactly. The bore hole should be perpendicular (90°) to the vertical
pipe axis or with a slope of about 1° to the main sewer pipe.
IMPORTANT: Viewed from the drill, the ratchet of the lashing strap must be on the opposite side of the pipe (FIGURE 5).
Drilling the main sewer pipe in the pipe trench (existing structure):
Prepare a head hole of sufficient size to position the drill. The orientation and height of the drill should be lined up exactly. The bore hole
should be perpendicular (90°) to the vertical pipe axis or with a slope of about 1° to the main sewer pipe. Then the drill is securely fastened
across from the trench wall (shoring may be required) with square timbers or rotary supports (FIGURE 4).
The height measurement (range B to C) is checked again after positioning the drill (7). Measure from the top of the drill bit to the top of the
pipe.
IMPORTANT: Advance the drill bit far enough so no burr is left on the edge of the bore hole (8).

(see below).
Properly prepared bore hole, diameter 212 mm (± 1 mm) with no major spalling on the inside and outside (9).
In case of significant spalling on the inside of the pipe (where the drill bit comes out), check whether a complete installation kit should be
glued into place from the outside.
Clean the bore hole with a clean, damp rag before installation (10). Directly before installing the junction, the bore hole should be slightly
damp (no 'standing water') since the 1-C sealant sets faster in the presence of moisture.
For optimal processing, the temperature of the 1-C sealant should be at least +10°C.
Squeeze out half a tube of lubricant in the bottom of the bore hole. Do not use lubricant provided by the customer. Now use the supplied
brush to apply the lubricant, only to the front (3–4 cm) of the bore hole, particularly on the sides (11).
IMPORTANT: Do NOT apply lubricant to the seal of the U3
junction.
®
Lay the leading tip of the U3
®
junction into the bore hole (12).
Then push the junction in the direction of the main sewer pipe (13).
At the same time, continuously tip up the rear end with the grey threaded ring (14).
Once the entire seal is inside the bore hole, the resistance to inserting the junction increases. At this point, thrust in the direction of the bore
hole with the heel of the hand (15).
Reach into the junction, check whether the seal is completely unfolded, and pull the junction back until the seal is up against the inside of the
pipe around the entire circumference (16).
Slide the spacer with the lip into the bore hole, then apply sufficient lubricant to the thread and spread it between the threaded ring (grey) and
spacer.
The guide groove in the U3
®
junction and the filling hose have to be exactly at the top, in the 12 o'clock position on the junction (17).
Turn the threaded ring by hand to the stop before the spacer.
Apply the threaded ring spanner and tighten the junction. As the threaded ring nut tightens, judiciously strike the threaded ring spanner with
your hand (NOT a hammer). This jerky movement prevents the entire junction from rotating around its own axis (18).
Visually check again whether the groove/filling hose is in fact at the highest point of the junction (19). If the junction has rotated, loosen it
again and start over with point (17).
Put on gloves and use a knife to cut open the 1-C sealant cartridge (20).
Caution, the 1-C sealant is quite runny. Make sure the broken out opening points up and do not squeeze the cartridge too hard.
Screw the cartridge tip with the stainless steel plug connector onto the cartridge (21).
Insert the cartridge into the cartridge gun with a reduction ratio of at least 25:1. The broken out opening of the cartridge should face up so the
1-C sealant does not run out.
Then, hold the hose with one hand and simply connect the stainless steel connector on the front end of the cartridge tip to the blue hose (22).
Now inject the 1-C sealant slowly and evenly. A certain resistance is felt on the cartridge gun at times because the sealant has to distribute
itself around the junction. Press out the entire contents of the cartridge (23).
Once the cartridge has been pressed out, pull back the blue ring on the hose connection slightly. The cartridge can be easily pulled off the
hose and disposed of in household waste (24).
Finally, reach into the junction again to check if the seal is properly positioned and no 1-C sealant has leaked on the inside (25).
A DN/OD 160 pipe can be connected directly and the sealing work can be carried out.
If groundwater is present, keeping it below this level for 24 hours is necessary. The sealant will then reach sufficient strength.
Note: The applicable safety regulations and guidelines have to be observed during all work, in particular DGUV rule 101-604.
