However, it can also be used in closed rooms, e.g. a garage.
The product may be installed outdoors. This product has been approved for energy-saving
lamps and only for connection to 230 Volt / 50 Hz (10/16 A) alternating voltage.
Any other use than as described above can damage the product. Moreover, this may give rise
to hazards such as short-circuiting, fire, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be mod-
ified or rebuilt!
This product complies with the applicable National and European specifications.
The safety instructions must be observed at all times!
Safety Instructions
Please read the entire operating instructions before using the product for the
first time; they contain important information about the correct operation.
The warranty will be void for damage arising from non-compliance with these
operating instructions! Liability for any and all consequential damage is
excluded!
We do not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused

General Information
• The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible for reasons of
safety and approval (CE).
• The lamp must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, excessive vibrations or strong
mechanical loads, as these damage the product.
• The garden light is only suitable for connection to 230 Volt / 50 Hz (10/16 A) alternating cur-
rent. Never try to operate the device with any other voltage.
• The structure of the device complies with safety class I.
• The product conforms to protection class IP54. The first digit „5" indicates that the device is dust
proof. However, the intrusion of dust cannot be fully prevented. Dust must not enter to such an
extent that the satisfactory operation of the device or its safety are affected. The second digit
„4" indicates protection against water spray. Water spray from any direction should not dam-
age the equipment. Removal of the gaskets, or fitting them incorrectly, results in the loss of the
IP54 protection class.
• Use the product with great care, as it can be damaged by a knock, a push or even a fall from
a low height. A damaged device must no longer be used and must be disposed of.
• The device is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children cannot be
expected to understand the hazards associated with electrical devices.
• Do not leave packaging materials unattended. Plastic foils/bags can be dangerous toys for chil-
dren. Danger of suffocation!
• In commercial institutions, the accident prevention regulations of the employer's liability insur-
ance association for electrical systems and operating facilities are to be observed!
• If questions arise, which are not answered in these operating instructions, please contact our
technical support or another specialist. Please consult a specialist, if you have any doubts
regarding the use or safety of the product.
Preparations for Installation
The garden light may only be installed by a qualified technician who is famil-
iar with the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE, German electrical wiring regula-
tions).
Faulty work, carried out on the mains voltage, endangers not only your life
but also the life of others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it
yourself but entrust a qualified technician.
Please note:
• The garden light can be mounted and operated in shielded outdoor areas due to the design
and the IP54 protection class.
• The product must be assembled and used out of the reach of children.
• Pay attention, when setting up/installing the garden light, that it is placed so no one can trip over
it. Lay the cabling accordingly. Use an appropriate power cord (earthed cable) and lay it in such
a way that future work in the garden (e.g. digging a flowerbed) cannot cause it damage.
• The garden light must be secured on the distribution board, provided by user, by a 10/16A fuse.
An earth leakage circuit breaker must be installed before this (FI protective switch).
• The lamp must be voltage-free during installation. It is not sufficient to just switch off at the light
switch! Switch off the electric mains supply (switch off the electrical circuit) and secure it against
Version 06/08
being switched on again by unauthorised persons!
°
Check that there is no voltage on the mains supply. When drilling the fixing holes, take care
that no existing electrical cables, gas or water pipes will be damaged.
Assembly
Pay attention to the information in the chapter „Preparations for Installation"!
• The garden light is only suitable for installation at floor level. Only install the light on a stable,
horizontal surface.
• Mark the drilling position, for the three holes in the base of the garden light.
• Drill the corresponding holes in the floor (e. g. concrete) and insert the corresponding plugs.
Caution!
When drilling mounting holes or screwing in place, ensure that no existing
electrical cables, gas or water pipes will be damaged.
• If you do not want to fasten the garden light, suitable earth spikes can be purchased from the
accessories shop.
• First lift the bottom cover from the light.
• Carefully pull out the plastic strip from the junction box, at the bottom of the lamp base.
Afterwards, slide it back into the lamp in exactly the same orientation. It guar-
antees that the junction box does not lie directly against the base of the lamp
and come in to contact with moisture.
It raises the junction box slightly so it is protected in the inside of the lamp
base.
• Unfasten the four screws on the junction box and carefully lift off the cover of the junction box.
Make sure the gasket does not get lost while removing the cover.
• Unfasten the screws of the cord grip.
• Then pass the mains supply through the bottom cover and the junction box.
• Connect the supply to the terminal strip, screw the mains supply to the correct terminals
(brown wire = L, blue wire = N, green/yellow wire = PE/protective earth).
The protected earth conductor must be connected! If your supply does not
have a protective earth, a new supply must be laid!
If no protective earth conductor is available, faults can give rise to the risk of
a lethal electric shock! Furthermore, you not only endanger yourself, but oth-
ers too!
In case of doubt, contact a qualified technician (electrician) and do not carry
out the connection and mounting yourself.
• Further, check the screw connexion for the cabling leading to the lamp.
• Place the grip cord and tighten it.
• Close the junction box. Please do not forget the gasket - it must be re-mounted and fitted cor-
rectly.
• Slide the junction box on to the plastic strip in the lamp base.
Pay attention to the correct orientation, the long strip points down to the lamp base, see figure
on the right. This arrangement raises the junction box and provides it with better protection
against moisture from below.
• Screw the garden light, together with bottom covering, to the ground.
• For wall or concrete mounting you can use the provided mounting materials.
Inserting or Replacing the Bulbs
The garden light may only be operated with an energy-saving bulb (max. 11W /
230 VAC / E27).
Do not use any conventional light bulbs or halogen bulbs. These produce too
much heat and will destroy the lamp or the glass. Risk for a short-circuit, fire,
etc.. Energy-saving bulbs become very hot.
Faulty energy-saving bulbs must only be replaced when the voltage supply is
disconnected.
((Caution: danger to life) and if not allowed to cool down there is a risk of
burns)
Never use an energy saving bulb with a greater capacity than that stated.
Switch off the power to the electric cable (switch off the electrical circuit) and secure it against
being switched on again by unauthorised persons!
The lamp cover must be removed to replace the bulb. First, unscrew the lamp head from the
lamp. Screw a suitable energy saving bulb into the socket.
Screw the lamp head back onto the lamp. Make sure the gasket does not get jammed and fits
the lamp head correctly.
Switch on the mains voltage again and make sure that the garden light is functioning.
If the garden light does not light up, switch off the mains voltage immediate-
ly (take out fuse or switch off at the circuit breaker).
Then check the connection to the garden light or the light bulb. In case of
doubt, contact a professional (e.g. an electrician).
Maintenance, Care & Disposal
The safety instructions below must be observed before the device is cleaned ormaintained:
Only a specialist, who is familiar with the risks and relevant regulations, may
carry out repairs or open the device.
Before cleaning or maintaining the lamp, switch off the electric circuit!
Precautionary measures must be taken to ensure that the equipment cannot
be switched on by unauthorised persons!
Light bulbs become very hot. Only clean the lamp after it has cooled down
(burn hazard).
This device is service free, with the exception of replacing the bulb. The outside of the device
should only be cleaned with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents
or chemical solutions, which could damage the housing or impair operation.
If you have a reason to believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, disconnect it
immediately and secure it against being operated unintentionally.
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the device shows visible signs of damage
- the device no longer operates
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- the device was exposed to extraordinary stress caused by transport.
Do not press too hard on the glass insert or housing, as scratches might appear.
Never spray water e.g. with a garden hose, on the garden lights!
Disposal
The light bulbs for this product comply with the EU Directive 2002/96/EG
(ElektroG)
The crossed-out symbol of a dust bin on the bulb or the packaging indicates that the
light bulb has to be disposed of separately from the household waste at the end of
its service life. Therefore, dispose of the bulb in your local authority where you can
find an appropriate bin.
The lamp itself (without light bulb) must be disposed of at the end of its serv-
ice life in accordance with the applicable legal regulations! Consult your local
authorities!
