First-time Operation

Follow the procedure below when using a second hard disk for the first time after purchasing it.
CAUTION
In the standby or hibernation mode, do not install/remove the second hard disk drive pack.

Power off your computer
When inserting the second hard disk drive pack for the first time, be sure to insert it
after turning the computer off.

Removing the multimedia pocket device

Slide the MP release latch. The device will eject slightly.

Remove the device by holding both sides of the device.

Install the second hard disk drive pack
Gently insert the pack into the multimedia pocket by
pushing on both corners until it clicks into place.
CAUTION
Do not install the pack upside-down.
The bottom of the pack may become disfigured.
NOTE
Whether the second hard disk is properly recog-
nized or not can be confirmed in [Main] of the Setup
Utility. If the disk is not recognized by the com-
puter (or if the second hard disk cannot be accessed),
power off the computer and reinstall the pack.

Format the second hard disk
If the second hard disk is unformatted at the time of purchase, use the following procedure to
format the second hard disk after installing the second hard disk drive pack.
(The steps give an example. The user is free to determine the partition and file system settings.)
CAUTION
We recommend formatting the disk after receiving confirmation from the sys-
tem administrator. The second hard disk may be formatted and the parti-
tion may be created with the preferences of the user.
Depending on the format method (file system), you may be unable to access the
second hard disk when it is installed in a model with another version of Windows.
Proceed with caution so as not to format another drive by accident.
The contents of a drive are completely erased by formatting.
