Ending Operation of Your Stationary Steam Engine

1. Let the fuel on the burner burn out completely.
2. Always close the steam valve before cooling the boiler down!
3. Let the entire stationary steam engine cool down. Any remaining water
after the cooling down phase should be removed through the filler ope-
ning for water (!) (Example: by pumping it out. The drain cock is locked
with a set screw for safety reasons and therefore does not work!).
Never put your stationary steam engine away, when it still have water
or fuel in it.
4. Wipe your model off with a soft cleaning rag. Do not use strong
cleaning materials or liquids on it. Do not clean your stationary steam
engine in a water bath or by putting it under running water.

Things To Do in Case of Injury

1. Burns or wounds from scalding should be cooled off with cold, running
water. Burns should be covered with suitable bandages. The burn or
scalding victim should be taken to a doctor or emergency clinic in any
event for further treatment. A pail already filled with water and placed
nearby serves as first aid in the case of burn injuries. If denatured alco-
hol or superheated steam oil gets into your eyes, your eyes must be
flushed with large quantity of flowing water. Be careful when doing this
that the water flowing from the affected eye does not come into contact
with the uninjured eye. Put a gauze bandage over the affected eye(s)
and take the patient directly to a doctor or a hospital's emergency room.
2. In the event of a fire use only fire extinguishing materials that are sui-
table for the fire in question. There are four classes of fires that can be
distinguished:
A = Fires from solid materials,
B = Fires from liquid materials or materials that become liquid,
C = Fires from gases, and
D = Fires from metals.
First and second degree burns are possible with the live steam engine.
You should therefore have a powder extinguisher or a CO
nearby when using the live steam engine. Become familiar with the
instructions for the extinguisher before running the locomotive. Additio-
nal information on the correct use of fire extinguishing materials can be
obtained from your local fire station or the manufacturer of the fire
extinguishing materials.
