6 Dante

The functions of the DSM-48DT are equivalent to those of the DSM-
48LAN; however, by means of its Ethernet interface, the DSM-48DT
can also be used as a 2-channel receiver in a Dante audio network .
The two Dante signals are available for the input channels IN3 and
IN4 as alternatives to the analog inputs and the digital input . The units
configured as transmitters in the Dante network will be used as signal
sources . With the program "Dante Virtual Soundcard" from Audinate,
computers can also be used as signal sources .
To use the DSM-48DT as a Dante receiver, make sure that the
DSM-48DT is at least connected to a Fast Ethernet switch (100 Mbit / s
Ethernet) .
Note: If the DSM-48DT is to be configured in larger networks by means of the
control program via the LAN interface, higher data volumes (e . g . when multiple
Dante transmit channels have been set as multicast flows) may lead to a failure
of the control connection . In this case, it may be necessary to add a switch to the
network which is ahead of the DSM-48DT and which supports "IGMP Snooping"
(IGMP = Internet Group Management Protocol) . The switch can be configured
to reduce the load on the DSM-48DT in such a way that the switch only passes
on multicast data requested by the DSM-48DT .

6.1 Setting up the Dante network

To set up the DSM-48DT as a receiver in the Dante network, use
the program "Dante Controller" which is available on the Audinate
website free of charge . The computer on which the program is to be
used must meet the following system requirements:
Component
Processor
1 GHz
Memory
512 MByte
Standard Ethernet interface (100 Mbit /s or Gigabit)
Network
or wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) interface
Windows 7 (SP1 or higher), 8.1 or 10
Note: Both UTF-8 and Unicode are supported except for host names
and device names; the DNS standard does not support Unicode for host
Operating system
names and device names.
Mac OS X 10.9.5, 10.10.5 or 10.11
Note: Intel architecture only; PPC architecture not supported.

6.1.1 Installing the program "Dante Controller"

To install the program from the Audinate website:
1) Go to the following Internet address:
https://www .audinate .com/products/software/dante-controller
2) Select the appropriate operating system .
3) Click the button with the Dante Controller version .
4) Log into the system or create an account .
5) Download the software .
6) Start the installation program (Dante setup) .

7) Follow the instructions of the installation program:
a) Read the license agreement text that is displayed in the window
"Dante Controller Setup" .
b) To accept the license agreement, tick the check box "I agree . . .",
or, to cancel the installation, click the button "Close" .

d) Acknowledge the following operating system warnings .
e) When the message "Setup Successful" appears in the window
"Dante Controller Setup", click the button "Close" to exit the
window (or alternatively, click the button "Launch" to start the
Dante Controller software) .

6.1.2 Unit configuration with Dante Controller

1) Start the Dante Controller software .
2) Wait for the DSM-48DT and the Dante transmitter desired to appear
in the matrix beneath "Dante Receivers" .
Note: If the DSM-48DT or the Dante transmitter does not appear in the matrix,
the corresponding unit may be switched off or located in a different subnet
or it may not be able to synchronize with the other Dante units . When one
of the last two reasons applies, the Dante unit should at least be listed under
the tab "Device Info" or "Clock Status" of the "Network View" . Often, it will
suffice to switch off the unit or to disconnect the connection to the switch to
solve the problem . For more information, please refer to the Dante Controller
user guide from Audinate .
3) Select "Device/Device View" from the menu bar of Dante Controller
or press Ctrl+D . The window "Device View" will appear .
4) In the bar beneath the menu bar, select the DSM-48DT from the
drop-down menu .
5) The third bar can be used to display different types of information
with regard to the unit and to make settings . Select the tab "Device
Config" (see figure below) .
6) If required, match the sample rate to the Dante transmitter desired
or define a different common sample rate for both units .
