2 Safety Notes

This unit corresponds to the directive for electromag-
netic compatibility 89/336/EEC.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against humidity and heat (admissible ambient tem-
perature range 0 – 40 °C).
Do not place any vessel filled with liquid on the unit,
e. g. a drinking glass.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
chemicals or water.
No liability for any damage will be accepted if the unit
is used for other purposes than originally intended, if
it is not correctly operated or not repaired in an
expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation definitively,
take it to a local recycling plant for a disposal which
is not harmful to the environment.
3 Applications
The video quad processors TVSP-46 (black-and-
white) and TVSP-46COL (colour) are designed for
applications in video surveillance systems. The units
allow display of up to four camera pictures (B/W in EIA
or CCIR standard or colour in PAL or NTSC standard),
individually or as quad picture (quadrant display), and
simultaneous recording with a video recorder. The
TVSP-46 displays the quadrants in black and white
only. During reproduction of the recording it is possible
to display a quadrant enlarged to frame. During repro-
duction of a quad picture by the TVSP-46 or TVSP-
46COL, it is also possible to record the current four
camera signals with another video recorder.
The video processors are provided with various
alarm functions. The picture shows an incoming alarm
via the alarm connections or the loss of a video signal
in case of failure of a camera. In addition, it is possible
to indicate the incident by an acoustic signal. A relay
with normally open contact allows further processing of
an alarm with an external unit. All incidents are record-
ed and can be viewed via the setting menu. The units
are provided with a real time clock which continues to
run even after power failure.

4 Connecting the Unit

4.1 Cameras
Connect up to four cameras to the input jacks VIDEO
INPUT 1 to 4 (11).
4.2 Monitor
Connect the monitor to the jack MONITOR OUT (13).
4.3 Video recorder
To record the camera pictures as quad picture,
connect the video input of the video recorder to the
jack QUAD OUT (14). To reproduce the recording,
connect the video output of the video recorder to the
jack VCR IN (12).

4.4 Alarm connections

External alarm devices, e. g. sensors such as motion
detectors, can be connected to the alarm inputs
ALARM IN 1 to 4 of the jack ALARM (15), pin configu-
ration see fig. 3. In this case, an open input is read as
high level; an input connected to GND as low level.
The level to trigger an alarm can be selected in the set-
ting menu (see chapter 5.2.8).
A floating alarm output (relay) is available as nor-
mally open contact between the connections EXT.
ALARM N.O. (pin 5) and EXT. ALARM COM (pin 4).
This output allows e. g. connection of the alarm input of
a video recorder which, in case of alarm, switches from
time lapse recording to real time recording.

4.5 Remote control

For remote control of the video processor via an
RS-232 interface (e. g. COM port of a computer in
combination with a terminal programme), connect the
controlling unit to the terminals TX, RX, and GND of
the jack ALARM (15). Fig. 3 shows the pin configura-
tion and examples with a 25-pole or 9-pole COM port.

4.6 Power supply

After connecting all other units, connect a power sup-
ply unit 12 V /1 A to the jack DC IN (10), e. g.
MONACOR PSS-1206 or PS-1204ST. A low voltage
plug 5.5/2.1 mm (outside/inside diameter) is required.
Observe the correct polarity: the inner contact must be
positive.
