Persons / Product
• Do not move the product when the hard drive is in operation. Turn it off and wait a minimum of 30 seconds.

destroy the hard disk.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.
• As power supply, only use the supplied mains adaptor.
• Only connect the power adaptor to a normal mains socket connected to the public supply. Before plugging in the
power adaptor, check whether the voltage stated on the power adaptor complies with the voltage of your electricity
supplier.
• Never connect or disconnect power adaptors if your hands are wet.
• Never unplug the power adaptor from the mains socket by pulling on the cable; always use the grips on the plug.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cable is not pinched, kinked or damaged by sharp edges.
• Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled in them. This poses a risk of injury.
• For safety reasons, disconnect the power adaptor from the mains socket during storms.
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

4. Operation
When not in use, always keep the docking station closed to prevent dust entering the station.
The docking station is equipped with a cover that closes the insertion slot up to the opening for
a 6.4 cm (2.5") SATA hard disk drive. Always place a dry, dust-free and lint-free cloth over the
opening if no hard disk drive is inserted.
1.
Connect the plug of the mains cable to the "DC12V/2A" connection socket on the back of the docking station. Plug
the mains plug of the power supply unit into a suitable mains socket.
2.
If the lighting of the on/off switch located on top is turned on, push the on/off switch down until you hear a click to
turn the docking station off.
3.
Connect the USB-B plug (
) of the USB 3.0 cable to the "USB 3.0" connection socket on the back of the docking
station.
4.
Connect the USB-A plug (
) of the USB 3.0 cable to a free USB connection socket on your PC.
5.
Hold the hard disk drive sideways on the enclosure and align the SATA port to the SATA plug inside the docking
station.
6.
Carefully insert the hard disk drive in the insertion slot as far as it will go (see Ill. 1). The cover opens automatically.
If you are using a 6.4 cm (2.5") SATA hard disk drive, push it directly through the opening in the cover.
7.
Make sure that the hard disk drive rests firmly on the SATA plug inside the docking station.
8.
Press the on/off switch down until you hear a click to turn the docking station on (see Ill. 2). The lighting of the on/
off switch and of the LC display switches on.

the USB 3.0 cable is connected to a USB 3.0 connection socket, the "
10. Now you can begin data transmission. The LC display indicates the data transmission speed in megabytes per

5. Tips and notes
• The docking station supports plug & play and hot-swapping (device drivers are recognised automatically and
devices can be removed from the PC while the operating system is running).
• USB 3.0 devices are downwardly compatible. This means that the enclosure with the installed hard disk drive also
functions on conventional USB 2.0 ports – but then only at the maximum USB 2.0 speed.
• You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating system may crash if the
connection cable is disconnected while data are being transferred (or the cabinet is switched off or the power unit
is disconnected).
• Always treat hard disks with care. Impacts during operation (also for a few seconds after switching off) may cause
the write/read head to touch the magnetic disk, which destroys the hard disk.
• When connecting the hard drive for the first time, it may take up to one minute for it to be recognised. The time may
vary depending on operating system and hardware used.
• A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it can be used and displayed e.g in the Windows® file
manager.
• With Windows® 7, navigate in the Control Panel to "System and Security". Click on "Administrative Tools" and then
on "Create and format hard disk partitions".
• There, select the correct hard drive and create a new partition. Afterwards, the hard drive needs to be formatted.
• Hard disk drives for Macintosh computers use a different file system than Microsoft Windows®. The native HFS+
file system for Macintosh is not compatible with Windows® without conversion. If the hard disk drive is to be used
for both operating systems, format the hard disk drive with a file format that is compatible with both operating
systems (e.g., FAT32).
• Note that certain operating systems do not support external storage drives larger than 2 TB, namely Windows®
versions lower than XP 64 bit (including XP 32 bit). For more information on the support for your operating system,
please contact the customer service of the operating system manufacturer.
• If you are not sure about the formatting procedure, contact a specialised computer retailer.
6. Cleaning
• Disconnect the product from the computer and from the power supply (disconnect the power supply unit) before
cleaning it.
• Use a clean, dry soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents as these may result in
discoloration of the housing.
