Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen 3.5"- oder 5.25"-Einschub eines Computergehäuses vorgesehen
und stellt dort zusätzliche Schnittstellen zur Verfügung (USB2.0, Firewire 400/1394a). Im Produkt ist
ein 4-Port-USB2.0-Hub sowie ein 2-Port-Firewire 400-/1394a-Repeater integriert.
Alle enthaltenen Firmennamen und Produktbezeichnungen sind Warenzeichen der jeweiligen Inha-
ber. Alle Rechte vorbehalten.

Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen Sie den Einbau von
einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden Fachwerkstatt durchführen!
Durch unsachgemäßen Einbau wird sowohl der Einschub als auch Ihr Computer und
alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den das Produkt eingebaut werden soll und alle
angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte von der Netzspannung,
ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten über den Ein-/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Öffnen Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers und nehmen Sie den Gehäusedeckel vorsichtig ab.
• Suchen Sie einen freien 3.5"- oder 5.25"-Einschub und entfernen Sie die zugehörige Frontblende.
Dahinter liegt möglicherweise eine Metallabschirmung, die entfernt werden muss. Bei manchen
Gehäusen kann diese abgeschraubt werden, bei manchen ist sie vorsichtig herauszubrechen.
Je nach Gehäuse ist dazu vorher die komplette Frontblende des Gehäuses abzunehmen.
• Verwenden Sie den mitgelieferten 5.25"-Einbaurahmen, falls erforderlich. Schrauben Sie den 3.5"-
Einschub darin fest.
• Verbinden Sie die beiden Adapterkabel mit den entsprechenden Anschlüssen auf dem Einschub,
achten Sie auf richtigen Anschluss (nicht den 3.5"-Stromanschluss mit den längeren Stiften
verwenden!).
• Schieben Sie den Einschub in das Computergehäuse und schrauben Sie ihn fest.
• Verbinden Sie einen freien 3.5"-Stromstecker Ihres Computernetzteils mit dem 3.5"-Stromanschluss
auf dem Einschub. Andernfalls funktionieren die Schnittstellen nicht.
• Entfernen Sie ein Slotblech des Gehäuses und führen Sie die beiden Kabel nach außen; schließen
Sie sie an den entsprechenden Schnittstellen Ihres Computers an. Über das mitgelieferte Slotblech
können Sie die Öffnung sauber verschließen.

Alternativ lassen sich USB- und 1394-Stecker auch an interne Anschlüsse z.B. einer
PCI-Steckkarte anschließen.
Verlegen Sie die Kabel so, dass sie nicht in einen Lüfter des Computers gelangen können,
verwenden Sie zur Fixierung z.B. Kabelbinder.
• Verschließen Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie alle Geräte ein.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort wieder aus und kontrollieren Sie
sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des Computers ist dieser von der Netzspannung zu
trennen, siehe oben!
Tipps & Hinweise
a) Allgemein
• Sowohl der integrierte USB2.0-Hub als auch der 1394-Repeater werden automatisch erkannt und
vom Betriebssystem eingebunden. Die benötigen Treiber sind bereits Bestandteil vorhandener
USB2.0- bzw. 1394-Schnittstellen.
Aus diesem Grund liegt keine Treiber-CD bei und es ist keine separate Treiberinstallation
erforderlich.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der 1394-/USB2.0-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen, da alle Anschlüsse
gleichberechtigt sind.
Wenn Sie Geräte öfters an- bzw. abstecken, sollte jedoch nach Möglichkeit immer der gleiche

Anschluss benutzt werden. Andernfalls erkennt evtl. die Hardware-Erkennung von Windows neue
Hardware.
• 1394- und USB2.0-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb. Sie brauchen
also nicht Ihren Computer ausschalten, wenn Sie Geräte ein- oder ausstecken wollen (bei anderen
Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen führen, z.B. wenn Sie eine PS/2-Maus während dem
Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).
Finden jedoch Datenübertragungen auf dem 1394- oder USB-Port statt, z.B. wenn eine Video-
kamera Daten an den Computer liefert, und Sie ziehen den 1394-Stecker heraus, könnte das
Anwendungsprogramm abstürzen und evtl. auch andere Daten beschädigt werden!
• Bei manchen 1394- und USB2.0-Geräten (z.B. externe Festplatten) erscheint ein Icon mit einem
Pfeil in der Menüleiste. Über diese Funktion können Sie das 1394- bzw. USB2.0-Gerät vom
Computer „trennen", dem Computer also mitteilen, dass er offene Dateien schließen soll.
• Zum Partitionieren und Formatieren von Festplatten, die über 1394 oder USB angeschlossen
werden, ist bei Windows XP die Computerverwaltung zu verwenden. Sie finden diese in der
Systemsteuerung von Windows (Start > Einstellungen > Systemsteuerung > Verwaltung >
Computerverwaltung > Datenspeicher > Datenträgerverwaltung).
• Bei Windows 98SE bzw. ME sind die MSDOS-Befehle „FDISK" und „FORMAT" zum Partitionieren
bzw. Formatieren zu verwenden, die in einem MS-DOS-Fenster eingegeben werden können.
b) USB2.0
• Die USB2.0-Ports unterstützen selbstverständlich auch USB1.1. Deshalb können hier auch
herkömmliche „langsame" USB-Geräte angesteckt werden.
• Für einwandfreien USB2.0-Betrieb sind normalerweise keine speziellen „USB2.0-Kabel" erforder-
lich. Herkömmliche „normale" USB-Kabel reichen vollig aus, allerdings müssen diese abgeschirmt
sein.
Sollten Sie beim Betrieb von USB2.0-Geräten Übertragungsprobleme feststellen, so können Sie
versuchsweise ein USB-Kabel verwenden, das auf USB2.0-Betrieb getestet worden ist („USB2.0-
certified").
• Im abgesicherten Modus von Windows ist kein USB-Betrieb möglich. USB-Tastaturen und USB-
Mäuse funktionieren deshalb normalerweise nicht (evtl. bietet das BIOS Ihres Mainboards/
Computers USB-Unterstützung für eine USB-Tastatur bzw. -Maus).
c) 1394
• Die Bezeichnungen „1394a" bzw. „Firewire" oder genauer „Firewire 400" bedeuten das Gleiche; die
Schnittstelle bietet eine Datenrate von 100, 200 oder 400MBit/s.
Das neuere „1394b" bzw. „Firewire 800" bietet eine Datenrate von momentan maximal 800MBit/s,
erfordert jedoch spezielle dafür geeignete Controller, Geräte und andere Kabel.
• Beim Betrieb von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann der Computer abstürzen, wenn
die Kamera ausgeschaltet wird oder die Kamera in den Standby-Modus umschaltet (z.B. wenn der
Akku leer wird). Verwenden Sie zum Betrieb der Kamera ein Netzteil anstelle des Kamera-Akkus
und schalten Sie die Kamera erst nach dem Ausschalten des Computers ab, wenn bei Ihnen dieses
Problem auftritt.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über den 1394-Anschluss
möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu Ihrer Digital-Video-Kamera.
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei denen die Aufnahme lt.
Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Programme möglicherweise einen "Schreibschutz-
fehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie testweise eine teurere
MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmlichen ME-Cassette. Die Codierung der Cassette wird u.U.
vom Videoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewertet.
Entsorgung

Entsorgen Sie das Produkt am Ende seiner Lebensdauer gemäß den geltenden
gesetzlichen Bestimmungen.

Prescribed Use
The product is designed to be installed into the 3..5" or 5.25" plug-in unit of a computer housing and
provides an additional interface (USB2.0, firewire 400/1394a). There is a 4 port USB2.00 hub as well
as a 2 port firewire 400/1394a repeater integrated in the product.

Installation
When in doubt about how to install the device correctly, please contact an EXPERT or
a specialist workshop and let them carry out the installation!
Improper installation damages the plug-in unit as well as your computer and all
connected devices.
Attention! Lethal danger!
Switch off the computer in which the product is to be installed and all connected devices
and separate all devices from the mains voltage, pull the mains plug! Switching the
device off via the ON/OFF switch is not sufficient!
• Open the housing of your computer and carefully take off the lid of the housing.
• Look for a free 3.5" or 5.25" plug-in unit and remove the respective front cover.
There may be a metal shield behind it which needs to be removed. For some housings it can be
screwed off, for some it has to be carefully broken out.
Depending on the housing the complete front cover of the housing has to be removed beforehand.
• Use the 5.25" mounting rack included in delivery, if necessary. Screw the 3.5" plug-in unit into it.
• Connect the two adapter cables with the corresponding connections onto the slide-in unit, pay
attention to the correct connection (do not use the 3.5" power connection with the longer pins!).
• Slide the plug-in unit into the computer housing and screw it tight.
• Connect a free 3.5" power plug of your computer power supply unit with the 3.5" power connection
on the slide-in unit. The interface will not work otherwise.
• Remove a slot cover sheet of the housing and guide the two cables outward; afterwards connect
them to the corresponding interfaces of your computer. You can neatly close the opening via the
slot cover sheet included in delivery.

Alternatively, USB and 1394 plugs can also be connected to internal connections of, eg
a PCI plug-in card.
Lay the cables in a way so that they cannot get into a fan of the PC, to fasten them use, eg cable
fasteners.
• Close the computer case.
• Connect your computer and monitor with the mains voltage und switch on all devices.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all settings and cable
connections.
Before you open the computer again, it needs to be separated from the mains
voltage, see above!
Tips & Notes
a) General information
• The integrated USB2.0 hub as well as the 1394 repeater are automatically recognized and are
included in the operating system. The drivers necessary are already an integral part of the existing
USB2.0 and/or 1394 interfaces.
This is why there is no driver CD included and no separate driver installation is necessary.

• It is irrelevant which one of the 1394/USB ports you use first, since all connections have equal

However, if you connect and/or disconnect the devices more regularly, you should try and use the
same connection, if possible. Otherwise the Window's hardware recognition may recognize new

hardware.

• 1394 and USB2.0 devices are hot swappable, they can be plugged-in and -out during operation.
This means you don't need to switch your computer off when you want to plug devices in or unplug
them (with other interfaces this can cause damage, eg when you plug in a PS/2 mouse or if you
unplug it during operation).
If, however, there is data transmission on the 1394 or the USB port, e.g. if a video camera transmits
data to a computer and the 1394 plug is disconnected, the application program may crash and other
data may also get damaged!
• For some 1394 and USB2.0 devices (eg external hard disks) an icon with an arrow will appear in
the menu bar. Via this function you can "separate" the 1394 and/or USB device from the PC and
therefore tell the PC to close open files.
• To partition and format hard disks which are connected via 1394 or USB, the computer administration
is to be used with Windows XP. You find it in the control panel of Windows (start > settings > control
panel > management > computer administration > data store > disk management).
• With windows 98SE or ME, the MSDOS commands "FDISK" and "FORMAT" must be used for
partitioning and formatting; they can be entered in a MS DOS window.
b) USB2.0
• Of course the USB2.0 ports also support USB1.1. This is why conventional "slower" USB devices
can also be connected.
• For perfect USB2.0 operation there are normally no special "USB2.0 cables" necessary. Conventional
"normal" USB cables are quite sufficient, but they need to be shielded.
If you should notice transmission problems when operating USB2.0 devices, you can try a USB
cable which has been tested for USB2.0 operation ("USB2.0 certified").
• USB operation is not possible in the protected mode of Windows. This is why USB keyboards and
USB mice normally don't work (the BIOS of your mainboard/computer may offer USB support for
a USB keyboard and/or mouse).
c) 1394
• The name "1394a" or "firewire" or to be more precise "firewire 400" means the same; the interface
offers a data rate of 100, 200 or 400MBit/s.
The newer "1394b" or "firewire 800" offers a data rate of at present a maximum of 800MBit/s,
however, this requires specially suitable controller, devices and different cables.
• When digital video cameras are operated with 1394 connections the computer may crash when the
camera is switched off or the camera switches to standby mode (eg when the battery is empty). Use
a plug-in power supply unit for the operation of a camera instead of the rechargeable camera battery
and only switch the camera off once you have turned the computer off, if this problem occurs.
• With some digital video cameras it is only possible to playback videos via the 1394 connection, but
you cannot record. Pay attention to the instructions of your digital video camera.
• During the recording of video, on so called digital 8 video cameras (where recording is possible, as
stated in the instructions) the video cutting programs may possibly report a "write protection error"
or similar.
This can be due to the video tape used. To check this out use a more expensive MP cassette instead
of a conventional ME cassette. The coding of the cassette may be incorrectly evaluated by the video
cutting program.
Disposal

At the end of its serviceable life, dispose of the product according to the relevant
statutory requirements
