Driver Installation
The USB and also the eSATA drivers are integrated components in the operating system, and
your SATA controller, respectively.
Therefore, a data carrier does not accompany the delivery.
Connection via USB
Please note:
Either use the USB port or the eSATA port on the docking station. It is not possi-
ble to use both connections at the same time.
• Switch off the docking station (switch position „O" = „OFF").
• Connect the low-voltage from the transformer supplied to the correct input on the rear of the
docking station's housing.
• Plug the wall plug transformer in to a mains socket.
• Connect the USB connector, on the rear, to a free USB2.0 port on your computer, using the

USB cable supplied.
• Naturally, a conventional USB1.1 port on the computer can be used instead of a USB2.0 port.
However, in this case the transfer data rate will be very low (USB1.1, about 1MByte/sec max.).
Version 10/09
• Before turning on the docking station, the SATA hard disk has to be inserted, see section
°
„Insertion of a Hard Disk".
Connection via eSATA
• Switch off the docking station (switch position „O" = „OFF").
• Connect the low-voltage from the transformer supplied to the correct input on the rear of the
docking station's housing.
• Plug the wall plug transformer in to a mains socket.
• Connect the eSATA connector, on the rear, to a free eSATA port on your computer, using the
eSATA cable supplied.
• Before turning on the docking station, the SATA hard disk has to be inserted, see section
„Insertion of a Hard Disk".
Inserting a Hard Disk
• First, switch off the docking station (on/off switch on the back, switch position „O" = „OFF").
• Insert a SATA hard disk vertically into the upper opening of the docking station, so the termi-
nal blocks on the SATA hard disk fit exactly on to the plugs inside the enclosure (if you press
the dust cover slightly with a finger, you can see the plugs inside the enclosure).
• Now switch on the docking station!
Ejecting a hard disk
• Terminate all access to the hard disk drive that is inserted in the docking station. Close all
opened files.
• Switch off the docking station (on/off switch on the back, switch position „O" = „OFF", power
LED goes out).
• Wait at least 30 seconds, so that the magnetic disks can come to rest.
• Pressing the eject button causes a lever to lift up the hard disk mechanically and unlocks the
hard disk. This may be a bit stiff with 8.9cm/3.5" SATA hard disks. You can also pull out the
hard disks manually, without pressing the eject button.
Please note:
Either use the USB port or the eSATA port on the docking station. It is not possi-
ble to use both connections at the same time.
If your computer does not have an eSATA port, you can use the slot bracket pro-
vided, with eSATA port and SATA connection cable. This component has to be
installed in your computer.
If you do not have the appropriate knowledge ask a specialist to perform the instal-
lation.
Exit the operating system and switch off your computer. Finally, disconnect your
computer/power supply from the mains!
Open the housing. Check if there is an unoccupied SATA connector on the moth-
erboard. For this consult the operating manual of the computer or the motherboard.
Remove a slot bracket and screw the provide slot bracket with the eSATA port firm-
ly in to place. Connect the L-shaped SATA plug on the cable with a free SATA con-
nection on your motherboard.
Place all the cables so they cannot get into a fan, fix the cables e.g. with cable fas-
teners.
Close the housing of the computer and reconnect it to the mains supply.
One of the SATA ports on your main board is now connected to the outside of the
computer via the cable and the eSATA connector.
Grasp the hard disk laterally on the housing, do not touch the plate with the elec-
tronics. Electrostatic discharge can destroy the hard disk and the docking station.
Do not use force when plugging in! However, the terminal blocks on the SATA hard
disk must lock into place.
The eject button is only for ejecting the hard disk, the button has no electronic
function.
Only grasp the hard disk laterally on the housing, do not touch the plate with the
electronics. Electrostatic discharge can destroy the hard disk and the docking
station.
Do not use force when extracting it!
